Bark River

I liked the looks of the Fox River Magnum too. Many of their designs don't meet my fancy but several do with the Highland at the top.:D

I almost sold my Red Woodie Special. WHAT was I thinking??
That would be like selling my Red Busse Warden! Whew!

Do yourself a favor and stay away from anything by that company.

I'd be curious to hear more details here. My experiences with Bark River products and customer service have always been exemplary.

On the other hand, you might want to stay away since once you get one, you probably will be buying others to feed a new addiction.

In summation: One person set up a custom run of knives with Bark River and the deal went south. Based on the limited information that has been revealed to the public, some people think that BRKT handled it poorly. Other allegations of poor dealing in the past have been levelled at Mike Stewart. Full details are in the aforementioned threads at GBU.

Personally, I love my Barkies and will continue to acquire more.

It boils down to: Mike Stewart is a scumbag. A convicted felon and a habitual liar. That's not even his real name. He's screwed over just about everybody who has made sheaths for him, and many of his own dealers.

A respectable person would refuse to have any dealings with him.

I've just got a BR Escort Boot Knife in stainless and I'm delighted with it,the finish ergonomics and look in Red Linen Micarta is excellent:thumbup:

However, I was perhaps lucky as I got a good one as my experience with other BR knives has been variable frankly. I have several of their knives. In another place ,a great deal of fan-club noise is made about the infallibility of these knives and their supposed faultless build quality (plus a loud roar that if there were anything wrong just send it in etc). I have to disagree with this chorus but if you get a good example, it is very good no question. As for all the recent controversy, that's up to the individual to decide.I've never thought much of their sheathes though, they do nothing for me and aren't useful or very well finished.

If you have the opportunity (not always very practical I know)to examine one of their knives before buying you could well be very pleased with what you get. Otherwise, it can be variable.

I have found their knives to be of good quality but the sheaths leave a lot to be desired.

Lycosa, wish I could but my photo skills are inept to say the least.

But have a look at DLT www.dltradingcompany.com they have VERY good pix of this red micarta Escort, accurate colours etc:thumbup:

Convicted felon? I just hope that you have proof of that. A person could get sued for saying something like that. I'm just saying.....

Bark Rivers are great knives, with a great warranty and reputation. All of there materials are top notch. You can't go wrong no amtter what you pick.

I've owned 2 BR knives: Micro-Canadian and Highland (1st run). Both knives were great. The sheath that came with each failed almost immediately. I was pretty appalled by the poor quality of the sheaths. :barf:

I thought I would never buy another BR knife. However, reading many of the positive comments here at BF has softened my thoughts. Plus, I really like my Micro-Canadian. :) I've no doubt that I'll get another at some point.

Rotte, have to agree with you about those sh*** sorry sheathes they are generally woeful and not durable OR practical:barf:

Are you guys talking about the old sheaths or the new sheaths? Because the new sheaths are a huge improvement over the old sheaths.
