Bark River's A2 steel question

Thanks for all the replies. Anyone have any pictures of there Barkies with a Patina?

Maybe it's because I live 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and we have 85% humidity everyday. If I'm drinking a glass of water near either of my Goloks, they get surface rust. I keep them slathered in oil when stored.

Why not just get a knife with stainless steel? CPM 154, for example, is about as tough as A2, maybe tougher, plus it's much more wear resistant and way, way more stain resistant.

Bark River sells many of their knives in CPM 3V, S35VN, and a few other steels that are more rust resistant. However, as others have said a Tuff cloth, or mineral oil will keep the A2 blades looking new. I like a pristine, shiny blade, so I Tuff cloth mine after use.

I'm finding I rather like the look of a well used and maintained blade that's developed patina. It gives it an old school look with lots of character that reminds me of a few of my uncle's old hunting knives.

Stainless steel costs quite a bit more.

That said, it's exactly what I did, my "go to" fixed blade for the last year or so is an S35VN Bravo 1.

Also, why am I posting in a 4 year old thread?
