I have one just like this except with horse stall mat handles, and the contouring is indeed excellent! Feels great in hand, and the fit in finish in general is very nice...came very sharp!

Chris,

Nicely done and a great deal too for such a big hunk of 3v. If I only had use for a big knife like this.

You're killing me. I love my barong machete. Do you have spine thickness and thickness at the top of the edge bevel measurements? I'm curious how thin you can run one of these things in 3V.

Spine thickness is just over 1/8" at .135. Blades, especially choppers, in 3V can be ground thin and hold up extremely well. This one has been ground to .020" and will get a really nice and thin convex edge before leaving. I could go thinner but it is better to leave a little extra steel for those glancing blows that could miss their mark. Most 3V knives I make will get ground to .010" and then sharpened but my choppers I leave a little thicker.

I hope this answered your question.

Chris

I like it a lot! If I didn't have bills to pay I'd be all over this one. Incidentally barong-shaped bolos are common in much of the Philippines. I have one right by me.

That's what I was interested in, thanks. I reground my Barong to thin it out and ease sharpening. Resharpening 3V after 3 months use as a garden spade (my barong's current mission, until fall) is not on my to do list. An excellent looking speciment of the category. The blade shape is so multi-talented. The sweet spot on mine is in an odd place, 7 inches from the handle on a 12 inch blade. It didn't take long to get the hang of it though.

Thanks for looking and all the kind comments. This one is currently Sold Pending Funds.

Thanks
Chris
