Hiya All,
I got a few new Spyders and I wanted to give my impressions of the Barong.
WOW --- I LIKE IT !!! I think Ed hit a home run with this design !!
It has very "gripey" scales with nice checkering --- combine that to the mid-curve in the handle and the hooked butt end and you have a knife that will not slide around once gripped. And you will not lose your grip or have the knife disarmed from you very easily.
I also think the butt would make for a good impact weapon , either open or closed , and the "spike" will consintrate the force of a blow to someone , thus causeing more damage with the impact.
The leaf shape blade is true to form as you can see from the photo of it next to a full size Barong. With the nice wide belly of the blade , it should be a ideal "slicer". And the point of the blade looks like it would penitrate very well. With about a inch and a half of penitration , you have almost the full width of the blade into the object. The tip , while very "pointy" is not like a "needle" and looks strong enough not to break off if bone is hit with a hard thrust.
The Barong has a larger hole then some of the other Spyders that I own -- it is easy to "flick" out at speed or just ease it out fully open with my shorter size thumb.
All in all , so far this is one of my favorites and I WILL be getting a spare one to keep NIB. Also , this Barong will be getting a custom belt sheath made for it -- it may take over as my EDC !!!
GREAT knife ED and Sal --- THANK YOU BOTH !!!
