I have been looking at this knife for awhile now and decided to buy. I needed a knife for gutting and skinning deer that would last. It had to be easy to clean and stay sharp.

I liked the shape of the blade on the Barong. It is a working man blade. I have a Manix I bought for this task, but never used it because it is heavy and hard to clean.

I have to say this is a great knife and I look forward to using it this hunting season. My only negative comment is I never knew Spyderco also has knives made in other countries. The Barong is Japan. If I knew this I would not have bought the knife. There are to many Americans out of work for that. Lesson learned. SRM

Next time just pay attention to the steel on the knife. If it's VG10 or ZDP expect it to be from Japan. They sure make a good knife over there though.

Keep us posted how the Barong performs after your next hunt.

Don't feel bad, things are now much worse economically over in Japan than in the U.S.

Spyderco does have many great American knives.

However the majority of their models are imports.

What people don't realize is that even if the job is over there, buying that product supports an American company, which helps keep more jobs over here. :)

That being said, I hope you enjoy the knife! :D
