I'm resurrecting this thread because of this recent find. Plus, I have another due soon. This one is from E.T. Segerström who was active from 1864-1925. Thr barrel length is 4" and is curly birch.

That was a great find Alan but it made me remember that at one time I had one I kept on my work bench and it stayed there for years but I have no idea what happened to it. Now my curiosity has got the best of me so I guess it's time to go hunting. :D:D

I know that feeling Randy. The only problem as I get older is that a "fake memory?"

That's a pretty good design for a "locking folder". This makes me want one but from what I'm hearing it seems unlikely I'll get one any time soon. I just like having different types of knives and this is something I've never seen before. Thanks for bringing it back

I just received my second one. This hobby is nuts. For years I couldn't find one at the right price and condition and now I have two in a week.
I posted the Segerström last week and this is a Johan Engström. They are both relatively common. The Engström is the smaller of the two at 3 1/4" which is just the barrel length. It is as solid as they come. No blade wobble, nothing. The main difference is the Segerström uses a pin lock and the Engström a step lock.

One of the first knives I really wanted and have yet to get.

I’ve seen plenty at shows and on the auction site but haven’t found one I could afford at the time.

Somewhere on line there’s a tutorial on how to make one. They don’t look that difficult to make. Just difficult to make perfect. One of these days I’ll get me one for the collection.

Thanks for the pics, it is a cool concept and as far away from a one hand folder as you can get. You literally have to sssemble it to use it.
