Barrett Anti-tank Rifle

munk, almost certainly the .375 JDJ. More an elk than a lion gun, but still, a hell of a handful, and probably loaded hotter than the factory ammo in the link.

Thanks Spectre. I got the guy's name (and cartridge) wrong- what else is new? I should have remembered his name, JD JONES.

Unless it's actually, 'Jonah'.

I'll be gumming food and slurring my words soon enough.

No sense being afraid, is there?

Apple sauce and prunes are friends. I could live in that world. What's on TV?

edit; except for the rules...that's going to be a problem.

Q: What's the worst thing about getting old?
A: Depends.;)

Did you hear about the guy that inventer a .375 Winchester Magnum handgun? He's the chap with the U-shaped head.:D

Hmmm, at a pistol range a long time ago a fellow let me shoot his Cahil magnum .45LC with a compressed load of (470?) rifle power. That was a bloody flamethrower!

<old dinosaur wanders away mumbling>:grumpy:

There is some "exotic" ammunition availble in .50 cal. (most notably the MK211 "Raufoss" multipurpose round). Please see "USMC Scout Sniper Instructor School Terminal Ballistics Demonstration of the Barrett M82A1A SASR" located here."
Regards,
Greg

Has anyone fired or know anyone that has fired Barretts really big gun? Note the optional sound suppressor... I can't wait to see this in a movie with a soft *pfffft* sound effect. ;)

Over spring break I went to Paris, and one of the stops we made was at the French War Museum/Napoleon's Tomb. The coolest room in the whole place was a room displaying every kind of gun used by the French Army since the Revolution. I assume they've got them cause they never used them after Bony was around:rolleyes:, but one of the guns they had in there was HUGE. It was used in the 1820s and was about 18 in. longer than the other guns of the era. The lock was massive, and it had a spike on the bottom for anchoring it into the walls of a fort(an assumption i made as the label under it had the word 'ramapart' in it). I then found the display case that labeled all the ammunition for the guns, and was astounded when i found the ammo for this gun. It shot a 27.5 mm   ball and also shot what looked like a primitive AP round. It looked like a huge miniball with a percussion cap at the top, and the cutaway showed that it was filled with powder. Im not sure how accurate it was, I imagine it wasnt rifled, but i still wouldnt want to be on the recieving end!

When William S Burroughs ( big time pistol lover) died Hunter Thompson wrote a peice in Rolling Stone about going shooting with him. This was when Burroughs was like 70 or something and he decided he wanted to shoot Thompson's .454 Causul. In the article it in detail describes how the gun almost lifted the old man off the ground and scraped up his hand, as Burroughs handed the pistol back over to him he said "Nasty little peice of machinery you have there" with a smile:thumbup:

WW I French 37mm gun, M1916. Scoped. Max. effective range, 2500 yards. Practical effective range, 1000 yards. Rate of fire, 28-35 rpm. First round manually cocked. Subsequent rounds recoil cocked. Ammunition: solid; explosive;explosive-delayed; canister (1.59 lbs.). Muzzle velocity:1,276 fps. Crew: 3 men (loaded, aimed, and fired by one man). Excellent for geese and snipers.

A 45-70 does kick in a handgun but it does not bruise you as does the old rifles with their curved steel butts.
You are warranteed black and blue.

Do you suppose Thompson will make a Contender with a .50 caliber BMG Barret bbl?;) :p :D
There just has to be some idiot that would attemt to fire such a thing, I shudder to think about the TC in .45-70 Govt.

Some still have the Finn Lahities in 20 and 40 MM. FROM THE WINTER WAR OF 1939 WHERE NOT ENOUGH RED ARMY WERE SLAUGHTERED BY THE fINNS.
Anytime commies are killed it deserves to be capitalized.
I JUST HOPE THAT WE BREECH THE RED RIVER DIKES AND PUT HANOI UNDER 18 FT. OF WATER AS THEY PROMISED ME SO MANY YEARS AGO. The mission would have worked. It still will.
Some have LAW`s. Some have RPG`s.
Any of these will take out a tank.
Ronnie makes a great weapon. A tank killer, not likely.
I have shot armor with the 1919 .50 Cal.BMG.
It will make divots in aluminum.
I`ll let a younger generation finish off the commies. We did most of the fighting already.

They say the muzzle brake makes shooting the big fifty like shooting a 12 gauge; but I know a lot of punishing 12 gauge loads.

The Barrett is turning out to be an anti UN Statement. Most desirable politically incorrect tool around.

Yes, that describes RA Inf. Army COL.`s down to PVT. of Inf. as well.
We. and all are eligible for The Combat Infantry Badge. We just need to survive 30 days uninturupted.
Then we get to wear them above the Medal of Honor.
We love Purple Hearts. It is just so much fun to be shot up on a septic battlefield. We do like guns.
Won`t see the flick.

Remember Spark. we can say what we want to here, Your rules.

guys,

let's remember that a big part of what is classified as weapons control is the level of "scary" factor.

for example, anti bear 100% organic habenaro spray... legal, mace... illegal.

just colour it pink, add a feather boa and there you go.

by the way, just saw "American Beauty" for the first time.

i love how the absolutely non violent, misunderstood, highly sensitive and incredibly creative/artist drug dealer was portrayed vs the repressed Gay, Nazi, child abusing fascist, Gun obsessed Marine Colonel.

but i digress
