There are a couple of other blades I intend to compare these to (<a href="http://www.zing.com/picture/p0317fdb13f64356b2c2561d4e93ff74e/ffb24167.jpg.orig.jpg">like this one</a>) but I will not have them for awhile so :

When I eventually get the other blades I will most likely just put the work comparing them to the Barteauxs in their reviews and link the Barteaux one to them. I will then finish up the Barteaux review by doing some harder durability work.

Both of my Ontario's are in pieces so I can't do a direct comparison, however from memory there does not seem to be a significant difference. Both types of 12" machetes easily go to about 45 degrees with a simple one handed push so significant prying in wood is not that practical. Newt Livesay's RCM is much stiffer and can handle that type of strain without excessive flex.

That was one of the additional aspects I wanted to look at. The RCM is no where near as stiff as the Battle Mistress but more so than the 12" Barteaux/Ontario and I was curious as to the level of functionality it would add, as well as what level of wood chopping it would be comfortable in and other things. In many ways it is directly inbetween the 12" Barteaux and the Battle Mistress.

I think I am going to discuss a thinner machete with Ed Schott, and see if I can get a feeling for the practical limits in that geometry.

Hey Cliff...

Had a look at the review...
Also had a look at the other machettes you were talking to Jeff about...

Kinda like the Brit ones a little better...

Do you have a price on either of these big hackers ?

I've got an old Diamond brand 14" machette, ,thats been through hell and back,, and truthfully wouldn't mind another big cheap hacker....
