I'm know to the Exchange---is it couth or proper to barter on used knives? Someone on WTB page offered a knife, but not quite the one the asker was looking for, so I expressed interest & a price was proposed...can I ask for a lower price? Or is that uncalled for when dealing with someone selling used knives? Thanks for any advice.

I say Barter away, just do it privately via E-mail. To offer a lower price in public via posting is uncouth to me, but to send an e-mail is fine. Thats my take on it.

The Bad Guy is right, and it's an important point. If you respond to any sale/trade post with a specific offer in public, you may make it hard for the seller, since others might not want to offer more than you later. And never tell some one he's asking too much.

You can take any opinion to e-mail, though, as long as you remember to treat the seller with respect.

and dont offer something ridiculous, like a LNIB CRKT M16 and a LNIB cammilus arclite for a LNIB spyderco civilian, thats not an offer thats nutz.

and the #1 faux pax imho, expecting near retail for your stuff and offering wholesale for the other guys, the middle of the road is preferable imho.

<dont laugh has happened to me ...........>

if you offer up a virgin for someone's knife make sure she really is a virgin. Dishonesty is not tolerated!!!:D
