Basic # 5 Kydex

I recently became the proud father of a Busse #5. Great knife, and the handle fits like a glove. I also like the leather sheath that came with it, but would like an optional kydex sheath for backpacking, canoeing, etc. when I don't want the leather to get soaked. Are the kydex sheaths sold separately and if so, where?

Right off the top of my head I can't remember the source for "off the shelf" sheaths, but several people here make custom sheaths for such knives. (Mine run $4 per blade inch.)

Yes I can do the #5,,no problem,,however I would need the blade for now..I'm working on a set,, but until I secure them.....

They Will be very much the same as the Fallkniven AI sheath...

JDS..enjoy your purchase. I am considering a Basic 5, Mean street or Badger. Did you consider these? If so, how did you wind up with the 5? Did the leather come standard? I thought they were sold w/kydex?

Geoff funny you mention those knives. Kydex came with the first run of Basics. I'm getting the #5 and I've had the Mean Street which I like in terms of size and weight, stout and not too heavy. One of these days, I'll get a Badger Attack. Johan posted a review of the Basic #5 with leather in the Knife Review section.

You all have some nice stuff!!

I'm looking to get both a Busse 3 and 5, but want a kydex for both. I want something with a thumbreak for inverted carry and also a way to lace it on to shoulder straps on military load bearing gear or vest. One sheath I've seen was came with a SOG seal pup. It was ambi with holes for lacing and also a loop big enough for the 2.5" LBE belt. I want something simple, strong and versital. Something to protect me as well as the knife. Thanks in advance. Knifecenter.com has pictures of what I'm interested in.

Oh and woodland camo would be nice. I know I don't want much....

Geoff,

I didn't pick the #5, it picked me. I was fortunate enough to win a contest in which it was the prize. If given the choice, I would have probably bought the #5 over the others, but solely based on price. I don't have enough income at present to afford the higher end knives.

DanLX,

If you're a buyer of these sheaths, there's no difference really.

If you're the maker, the difference is in price (I can get Concealex much cheaper than I can kydex). Both are equally easy to work, and equally as forgiving.
