Basic all around Rifle? (warning, gun retard at the helm)

Hey man

Love bucky kat by the way
Have you thought of an SAR 1 ? this is a AK 47 type rifle sold to the public. Tough as a tank, cheap about $300 and the ammo is 7.62x39
ammo is very cheap 1000rounds about $90
I have one with an electronic Cobra sight and some simple mods. parts are everwhere and ther are web sites devoted to the use and study of the rifle. You can get pre-ban mags 20/30/75/100 round mags/drums fairly cheap and wood or plastic stock sets.
good luck

As far as guns go, I have acquired several over the years that I find will cover most situations.

1) 12-gauge Mossberg 590 w/ghost-ring sites and speedfeed stock.

Availablity of ammunition, round capacity and reliability.

2) 22lr/410 gauge Springfield Armory M-6 Scout Rifle.

22lr ammo cheap and plentiful. 410 ammo small, compact and plentiful in most parts of the country.

3) Colt AR-15A2 Rifle 223 cal.

223 cal. ammo is available everywhere, magazines plentiful, good-accuracy and fairly-good reliability.

4) FN-FAL 308 cal.

308 availability, accuracy, reliabilty and plentiful (cheap!) magazines.

5) Winchester Model 70 Synthetic 300 Magnum.

Because I like it. Good deer rifle and I got it cheap! 300 at Wal-Mart with junk Simmons scope. Replaced scope with Redfield 3x9.

6) Ruger 10-22 22 LR

Ammo cheap and plentiful. Good, durable rifle.

7) Glock 19 9mm

Ammo and reliability.

8) Glock 27 40.sw

Weapon size, power and reliability.

9) Beretta 92F 9mm

Ammo and reliability. Mags aplenty.

10) Steyr Maadi AKM 7.62 x 39

Reliability and sentimental value. First high-capacity rifle I ever purchased.

11) Romanian SAR-2 5.45 mm

Traded for about a year ago. Reliability and cheap mags.

12) Galil AR 223 cal

Probably the best rifle I've ever owned. Bought when they first started importing them. Think I was around 20 or so.(When I was still single, in the military and belonged to the gun of the month club).
Glad mags are finally cheap for them!

I also have several military semi's & bolt-action rifles but these 12
are my favorites.

I carry the Glock 27 daily and have fired it over 2000 rounds.

I'm more into knives now and have been collecting them for around three years.

Like to hear from others on their favorite guns and why they own them.

Another vote for:

Remington 700 bolt in 30-06 (for calmly picking things off from a few blocks away)

AK (for laying a curtain of lead in a 'night of the living dead' scenario).

Tough choice. Consider:

10/22 ruger...cheap, reliable, magazines available, more aftermarket parts than any other firearm. Great for plinking and small game. cheap ammo

SKS cheap, reliable, mags available, lots of aftermarket parts. Good hunting/ self defence. Cheap ammo

If I had to limit my choice to just two long guns it would have to be:
Scoped 10/22 with several reliable hi-cap magazines.
Savage 24 v (or is it the 24f?) 30-30 over 20 gauge.

Reasons...they are fairly cheap. The Savage would be the more expensive of the two. Both are reliable. Every one dog town in America has someplace that carries those three calibers.

Glad I don't have to limit it to just two tho!
