I forged this basic combat knife off a Kabar blank that I purchased from a machine shop that was supplying blanks to a manufacturer. The blanks were 1095 and profiled with the blood groove in place.

I changed the tip profile a bit and forged the bevels....the edge is flat ground. I added a brace of teeth that work pretty well.

The blade is differentially heat treated and you can see it thru the parkerized finish. The blade is just a hair under the length of an issue Kabar.

Nice and sharp with a sharpened clip.

The handle is is mortised for the tang and is made from green linen Micarta with 5 brass pins and thong tubing. The guard is black linen. The Ek style handle is plenty long and despite it's squared look.....very ergonomic and grippy.

Comes with the pictured black Blackhawk brand nylon sheath.

The knife has a few VERY LIGHT use marks from testing....I was gonna keep it for myself....but there are too many of those lying around.

This would make a great gift for a soldier headed for deployment....a basic combat knife that is tough and familiar.

Price is $175 plus actual shipping.....I accept Paypal and money orders.

Warren...as thick as a Kabar.....5/32" I think....

After I made this one awhile back I showed it to a ex-spec ops vet friend of mine and he really got a kick out of it.....commenting that something like this is all a guy needs.

Well I think your friend is right, and I also have a friend whose son is about to graduate from Ranger school. I think this'd be a fitting gift from his Dad's friend "the knife guy." My e-mail is currently down from the office, but please consider this one sold if nobody has already beaten me to it while I sat and gaped. :)

Sold it is then Warren...and thanks!

I am very glad it will make it to a soldier and not a knife drawer!

Therefore...shipping will be free!

Greg

You're a gentleman, sir, and I thank you! I can't make it to the graduation, but it'll go down with his dad, and we'll see if we can get him to snap us a picture of the ranger and his tool. :)

I'll be headed home soon, so I'll be able to get in touch with you then. Tech guys have taken over troubleshooting, so I'm not going to get anything else done today.

Awesome job Greg! Very nice of you to do that for your friend Warren. I'm sure he'll feel more secure carrying that knife while being away from his family and friends. May he be safe while in harms way.
Scott

He'll probably cut himself with it and then I'll catch hell from his Mom. ;) :D
