Basic Filework?

Simple question here... I have the vine pattern downpat (after a bit of practice) but I have not been able to come up with the simple perpendicular lines pattern. What tools do you recommend to get that nice tight, parallel set of lines?

I believe what you are looking for is checkering files, used on gunstocks and the like.

Maybe mark it with a check file and then use a jewelers file to cut the marks deeper?
