Basic forged 5160 woods knife

I usually don't care that much for a forge finish, but your's looks great! Keep us appraised of your progress!

Kevin is definately still around.... just start a thread titled "How do I heat treat 1095?" and he'll emerge from the shadows.... lol..... seriously though, don't post that.:barf:

He would be the first to tell you how dangerous a salt pot set up can be.... the results are outstanding though.

I practiced for about a year until I achieved consistant predictable results. I have buckets of broken blades. Every one taught me something. That's what being a good maker is really all about. Knowing yourself, your limitations, your strengths, your craft and presenting your wares, honestly without hype.

Rick

very wise words there, and I think I learn more from previous failed blades then I do my successful blades. I got your email too and replied :)

I know I can only go so far on my own and eventually would like to go do some classes at the ABS school in Arkansas, and in the mean time just keep potting on with practice part time until I can take it to the next level. With my machinist ability though I know I have the ability with a lathe, mill and surface grinder to stock remove some quality blades but will pursue that later.

Thanks a lot, and will definitely post more...in a few months though I will be heading to the US so starting from scratch with shop setup, hopefully some of the guys here and other forums will have equipment handy that they are willing to offload...the rest i'll need to make.
