Basic handle question

Can the pins be removed and replaced on a handle without destroying the existing handle?
Or would the pins and handle need to be replaced?

You could try drilling the pins out, and then counterboring the wood, and trying to put larger pins in, but I think it would be much quicker/easier to just grind them off and replace both at once.

Those appear to be screws, rather than pins. You might be able to drill the screws in the center out, pop out the ecutcheons, and install new fateners-which are available from knifemakers' supply houses.
Pins are easier to remove.

I would think if you were really gentle, it should be possible without harming the wood.

Removing the tubing might be a problem. The handles are thin in that area.

Best way is to buff it with 1000 grid 2000, 4000and finish off with 6000 grid and then laqour it and then buff with white compound

How does this remove the pins in his handle? Buffing only has a mild abrasive action, and even at 1000 grit, it would take forever to sand off the pins/handles.

Don't remove it, chances are it's also glued in, have you found a pin large enough for the hole if you drill it out? There is a chance you can crack the wood. It's a beautiful well made handle from what I can see so a refinish is a better route to go IMO...

Do you know who the maker is? Perhaps you can contact them to confirm how the handles are attached (pins, screws, glue). And perhaps they can do the job for you.
