Mac, thanks for the excellent photos and the "boots on the ground" discussion of tools and techniques. The fine points on machetes you were able to give us were especially useful. I'm afraid most of us here in North America don't know much about choosing and using machetes.

Praise be to the God of Heaven and earth that we do not have major mosquito problems here in Minas Gerais! Nothing a little DEET can't handle. This location was at a higher elevation than the lower forest so while we do have some flying nasties we don't have to use nets here.
