Basic necessary tools & machines to start making knives in your home?

Hi Guys

I d like to ask knifemakers for recommended basic tools /machines needed to start making knives home? Also, what steels are best to begin with?Also you can mention how did you start making your first knives,as motivation for those who are playing with this idea, plus some photos if you will pls

Welcome! :)

I have started making knife recently (lot of fun and lot of work - more than I expected :) ). At the same time I started a blog to document the process (see my signature for a link) - I already have a few finished projects and a few general articles - have a look if you like.

And definitely check out that sticky thread mentioned above.
 
hacksaw, file, vise, sandpaper/backing, some sort of drill

I made my first knives this way using my porch for a bench. Your next logical step is to get a grinder.
