BATAC SE -vs- The Edge Pro

I think i am going to get an edge pro now. Can you sharpen any size knife (lets say the FBMLE) on it?

Does anyone know a website that sells them for a good price?

I sharpened my AK on it but it  was a pain. I had to do it in sections and make sure the angles were the same. I also sharpened another HOGS FBM with the EP. Worked great.

Sweet thanks for the answers :), now just to find it for the right price.

I actually found mine on Flea-BAY! It came with all the stones. I forget the price but it was a good deal. You can try there, but first I'd post a WTB on the exchange and then just "google" it and see what you find. You never know. :D

I use the EP on my knives when they get real bad or if I buy a knife that is in bad shape. But I just hit the edge real hard with the coarsest stone to get the grind right and then I strop the blade. It ends up shaving and still has that micro serration edge and they cut like crazy.

But from then on I use sandpaper and mouse pad or just a strop with coarse compound and eventually work the edge to convex.

I can't seem to get a convex edge as sharp but they will shave hair. But the reason I like them so much is that after a week of using them they still shave hair.

OH... and the best edge grind ever for hard use was the asymmetric. If you just look at it right the edge comes back

I remember trading with thom brogan I think and the knife he gave me had a tripple ground edge on it that was so sharp it was scary. He made a convex out of what looks like an edge pro sharpening system. I have wanted to try that sometme cuz it looked cool.

That had to be Thom. He could sharpen a hammer and shave with it. ;)

You can just rough it out real fast on a Diamond stone. Then finish with some sandpaper. Lots cheaper than a edge pro. This thread motivated me.

This BATAC LE will treetop hair. It requires total concentration when using it because you can not let your fingers wander. It will bite you.

Here are some in progress shots

Note that the line between edge bevel and Primary grind.. No longer exists.
The Zero edge.... :D

Here is the edge polished out to 2000 grit.

what angle did you go with and what did you finish it with (grit wise) I love my edge pro, but do not get those kind of results. I think i have to put more time into the edge

Beautiful edge as usual Jim

It looks like the the primary was initially put to a high V grind then blended to a convex with sandpaper. I love the way how your edges turn out!

That is it exactly. My hand work with stones is sloppy and in the course of going through several grits I tend to convex my edges anyway. So I have found a way to make peace with it.

I start by knocking the edge way back with a course stone. I go a bit to thin.

Then as I run through higher and higher grits it begins to convex naturally and become slightly more obtuse at the very edge. Final work is done with sandpaper to smooth in the convex and apply the final edge.

So my edge kungfu is called..... Embrace the slop. That CGFBM you liked was a pretty good example of the product. This knife came out much better.

This one really is a cutter now.

Glad to see someone using Alligatorgrit. That stuff's great. How long did it take you do do that Justabuyer? I used to use just sandpaper and a stone, but a belt sander has made things so much faster. Stay cool

Prolly about 2 hours maybe 2 and a 1/2 at the most. Now that I use a DMT 120 Extra extra Course to rough out the new bevel it goes pretty fast.

Before the advent of the DMT this was a all day affair.
