We have a newer Verizon phonebook so I thought I might as well but the old one to use. I've seen and heard about this but never tried it. So I figured what the heck. Here is a quick clip.

Here is another clip. This one was on the spine and was a little harder. Lots of glue and crap which also got on my blade. Still fun though. ;)

WOW

That things gotta be wicked sharp! The video is much better at showing this than pics... very cool TL!

So... what did you use and how is it sharpened? How did the edge hold up?

Just ruined the Stafford County phonebook.

Hey -- if I can make this work...any of you can. Try it! Just make sure it's a phone book your significant other don't care about!!

Now there is a smart man. :D And way to go on teaching those knives a thing or two.

I wish I could say, "Well I just used some stones to freehand sharpen it". I wish.

I used my trusty Apex Edge Pro on my BATAC. The only way I can really get things scary sharp. I did about 8 cuts and the BATAC performed beautifully. I, on the other hand, got sleepy as this was a last minute test. I never tried it with the factory edge so I am not sure if it will perform the same. But it came to me shaving sharp. After the cuts on the phone book it still seems just as sharp to me.

I really need to get the "free hand" method down one day. I am o.k. with the sandpaper method. Or steeling with a crock stick. But I want to get good at using stones. "One day Grasshopper"! ;)

Which knife(s) did you use?

Tan/Snakeskin BATAC. It came with an unusually sharp edge for a Busse -- did 6 cuts with no appreciable dulling. Like you, I had to be careful and use both hands.

Edge looks the same afterwards as it did before. Still shaves the hair off my arms. Of course, all I have to go by at home is a magnifying glass and the 'shaving trick'...

I really ought to repeat this with an uncoated blade...say a nice Satin or DC SH-1! :D Will have to find a new sacrificial phonebook, though.

If the SH-1 takes too long to come, I'll 'sacrifice' my BATAC LE -- ehhh, once that comes!!

Hey, I just noticed. Congrats on the 3000 post:thumbup:

This was a dang good one for it, still hav'nt got over the awesome video.
