In one of the messages I have recently about the difference between Manila and Batangas. As far as I know here in Batngas Philippines there is no such thing as a Manila balisong only a Batangas balisong. Manila is the Capital of the Philippines and Batangas is a province were balisongs originated and are being made.

Hi!

My opinion is that this is just relating to the placement of the latch, if the latch is on the safe handle then it's manilla and on the unsafe handle then it's batangas(or was it the reverse??)

Any additional information welcome!

If the latch is on the safe handle than it is a manila style. If the latch is on the bite handle than it is a batangas style.

2sharp and balisongman are correct in that sense. It is just all about where the latch is on the balisong. Armand if partially correct in the sense that all Balisongs manufactured in he philippines is batanggas latch.

I have a theory that , much like the fortune cookie, the manila latch is a product of some 'ingenious' mind outside of the philippines. (yes this is where you insert "there is proof that the balisong came from france")

ANy discussion on this topic I would love to hear btw
