while i know this is not a knife it is a defensive tool so i apologize if this is not the place to post this and understand if this is removed.

does anyone know what the real laws are regarding the cary of an ASP/extendable baton. i have heard no civilian can carry one, but ive also seen that supposedly jurisdiction to jurisdiction matters, but ive also seen only LEOs, military, and retired of the 2 can.

ive tried to read my states weapons laws and it is not clear, the only thing it says is that the list of "illegal weapons" cannot be CONCEALED carry no where does it say about open carry (so if i got a belt sheath for it i dont see how it is illegal. ive been meaning to try and call my State police office about clarification but every time i remember to it always happens to be rather late.

if it helps i am in VA an the 2 places i reside are richmond and york county (i am a college student at this point and while i know i have to deal with the whole school policy but there are plenty of times i am off campus and would like something to protect my self/others if for any reason an issue arises.

any help would be appreciated

Not to sure about your state, but here is AZ they are legal to own and carry either open or concealed. Guess when everyone can carry a gun, they don't much care about a baton.

However on the flip side. In CA it is a felony to even possess one never the less carry. Technically when I left the police force I was supposed to turn in my batons and my 12rd mags with my badge. Well, I figured that the state was not going to be getting that much value in free gear and they currently sit in a box on a garage shealf (the batons that is) the mags live one in my gun and two on my belt.:D
