Batoning contest

Dang. I wanna play but my BK11 is in transit, it'll be my first. This is cool. Do any blow up? Cuz they ain't no problem that can't be solved with the application of high explosives. Can't wait to beat the crap outta mine to win stuff and prove things to guys that already know the outcome.

Pat

Don't worry there will be others. Get more beckers till the next go round Ill think of some other stuff to make people do in the mean time :D

My take at it... took forever to get to burning between work, rain, and holidays, used loaner BK 2 for most part & BK14 a little. Live in the burbs so kinda limited what I could get away with doing. Wood was apple wood from a tree I had to take down off the property.

Welp, I was gonna do something awesome for this, I told Clich about it a while back. But, not gonna have time. Maybe I can help with judging?

Thanks again for the contest Clich, I wish I was able to finish my entry. But it's not going to happen.
Good luck to all who completed the challenge!

Oh, and BUMP.

Continued from page 4........................

I decided to make the roof out of tin. Since this is a batoning contest I used my BK11 to baton the tin.
Before

During
100_0305.jpg

After a bit of edge damage but it sharpened up fine. It cut through the tin like it was butter.
100_0306.jpg

Here it is chinked and with the roof
100_0313.jpg

Next I made a table with Osage orange batoned and cross cut it into a board with the BK9
100_0308.jpg

Used a Remora to drill holes and carve the legs.

After that I had to put out about three fires, so I took a few after pics.

This was lots of fun thanks for the chance Clich and thanks to my son Caleb for his help in the building.
Sorry for so many pics but I thought you guys might like them.

I was going to buy myself a BK-2 for my birthday in a week, but figured I'd try for a free one by playing with knives and fire, first. Took the kids out Tuesday. Malina (11) is holding my BK-9 and Kreegin (6) is holding the BK-11:

Chop, chop:

Deadfall ended up being too frozen to use:

So, plan B:

Beckers and a baton:

Batoning:

Finished batoning, since my baton is finished:

Didn't have time to build it like I wanted, but had fun:

BK-11, firesteel and a fire straw:

Striking:

Success:

Burn:

Thanks for the chance, Clich! Had a lot of fun.

Here is the update to my previous post. Dang you guys started setting the bar high... I already posted the materials and the batoning pictures....

A note, all work, and I mean ALL work, was done with the BK2..... A BK9 or BK5 woulda been nice though:D

Total time spent, about 12-13 hours... Lot of time spent taking down the trees, sectioning them and batoning them....

Dang notching took forever.... My hands are covered in blisters, for the sake of, "only Becker" (my or Clich's quote, I'm too lazy to see if clich said that) I didn't use gloves. I also have a sizeable red spot on my chest from using it as an anchor point for notching....

I thought it'd be great to use the bowdrill set I made with my BK2, but I got lazy..... Sorry

Fire will be up in a short bit. I have to wait for the family to get home and see the cabin.

It is 7:30 ish my time, so, hopefully the fam will get home soon and I can burn this puppy. If they don't I will do it without them.

AAR: Wear gloves. Ditch the stupid chord wrap, it was fun playing with it, not fun using it. Convex rocks.

Thanks for looking guys. God bless and have a great night,
Cole

Hmmmm, I thought I rotated those pictures.... Sorry

Ok, sorry for being late here, but it was a long week and i passed out on the couch at about 730. After going through the entries ive come to realize, that i cannot do this alone. Way to may col entries. Im gonna make a poll for the weekend, and let the community decide.

All I have to say is wow..
I would like to mention that you folks going out with the kids and having fun...are AWESOME parents...good for you, and good for us..since your kids are gonna be good for the future generation!
I look at those kids and think, man, they are gonna always remember there super cool dads...thats some heavy stuff.
I can't wait for my little girls to get old enough for play time like this, they love my knife collection, but up till now, its all off limits for them...couple of years I think. I am green with envy guys.
