Batoning with a Becker

Some nice pics guys, just used my 7 to split some wet wood for the fireplace this weekend. Much to the delight of my boy and dismay to the wife as I was doing it in the living room.

What do you use chaga for? Do you use it medicinally in teas or tinctures?

Totally works well for tinder.... but it's also a potent medicine if you are into that stuff. It really strengthens your immune system.

Once it's dried out, Take a chuck about 1/2 to 1 cup in size, chop it into bits, and simmer it in good water for a few hours. The resulting tea is dark like coffee, and has a vague maple-y vanilla-ish flavor, it's really good.

Chaga is an "adaptogen" which means it modulates our immune system: if it's weak, chaga strengthens it, or if it's in overdrive (like an autoimmune condition) it backs it down. It's also good to fight cancer.

i have batonned SO many logs and RARELY need to sharpen the knife. I have a BK-09 and it gets the job done everytime. I haven't found much it won't go through.

batoning is very useful to make say, shingles, or other artifacts in constructing further items, say, furniture...

it can be useful to in dire circumstances, make some fire starting materials.

otherwise, it's stupid :) :D

hee hee hee hee

I like batoning because I can do it while sitting in my lawn chair:)

Me too....:D

Thanks Moose - Psyop has told me about the contests. If I understand correctly though they are for Beckerheads only and for now at least I do not meet the qualifications for becoming a member. Someday perhaps.:o

Good to see you around Col. Be sure and check out the contest threads we have here, there are some good ones.

This is true, BUT there are open contests that allow anyone to compete. There are also contests with prizes given by members of this forum that can also be open contests.

Being a Beckerhead is awesome but the road to becomeing a Beckerhead can be fun too.

Yeh members run some fun ones. Its about time I do another one of these days.....hmmmmm maybe something with batoning. I gotta think it over

There are quite a few of us that use this as a means to safely split wood without an axe. The BK2, with it's heft, is quite well suited to this task. All the knives I have get used to baton, however I just gently tap them through the wood as opposed to beating on them like a man possessed. All except the BK2 that is. The BK2 gets wailed on like it owes me money. Cause it can take it. ;)

When I had my BK2 (damn hippies) it was bashed hard enough to knock white off rice.

I gotta do a contest too. But I also need the funds for a decent prize...

I spend most of my time at my crappy inner city house but I do own a fire pit and have to split a good amount of wood since I love sitting by the fire in winter most. If I'm using my BK9 to split a log that has been split in halves already, or one that's under 6" in diameter I just give it one powerful whack and then beat it on the ground to split it. I've had to baton a few times where the blade got truly stuck, but for the most part my wood can be split with a chop and a bang, bang.:D I know this probably goes against the bushcraft way:eek: but it sure seems to be the faster method.
