Batoning?

For me hatchets vs batoning depended on the activity. Camping for a period of time meant more gear, and more firewood needed so the hatchet came with.
Hiking and extended hiking meant traveling light and fast; getting off the beaten trail with minimal equipment- batoning with a suitable bushcrafters-style knife (Kephart type for me).
What was that motto, “be prepared”?

That is basically a froe with a straight handle.

At 12 ounces I would consider it more clever than froe but we all are entitled to our opions.

In the function of batoning, yes, but a cleaver is much more versatile.
