Batoning

It is not just for splitting wood- it works very well for harvesting poles or building shelters as well.

1. back up against target sapling.

2. Sit down- bending the pole over

3. Place edge of knive at sharpest bend- angle edge toward ground a bit.

4. Give spine a couple of taps! This is fast and effective

It also works VERY well for limbing poles and for creating precice notches and other cuts for camp carpentry and trap building. None of these applications require one to use much force either. Nothing more than a firm tap.
