batonning on saw teeth?

i'm thinking of getting either a tops steel eagle 107c, or 107d. this is the version with the teeth on top of the spine. can someone that has experience with the knife tell me:

1. do the saw teeth work well? i'm looking for something for notching and such.

2. can you baton directly on top of the saw teeth? would the teeth break off or bend? this would be just until the blade is fully into the piece of wood being split, then baton near the tip where there are no saw teeth.

if batonning is not recommended on the teeth, then i would probably get the 107e, without the saw teeth.

thanks for any help.

Don't baton, get an axe. Don't buy a knife with a "saw edge" on the top, buy a saw instead.

Batoning is not recommended at all.
Bring an axe, like a fiskars
Huh??? I have been batoning long before internet forums.

Where I live it is a normal way to make kindling for a wood stove.

OP...

In my experiance wood selection is far more important than knife selection when batoning.

If you want to baton get the E model. You won't hurt that knife batoning with it and you will be ditching the weight and awkward length of an axe while trudging through the woods. You can make the same notches without the saw teeth. Only advantage to the saw back is they might notch a little quicker.
