Battle Mistress Design?

I think that the extra reach of the NMFBM really adds to it's utility.

Yes, that is a very good point. To the OP I have a FBM LE style blade and it is a very good chopper but the NMFBM is better. I saved some money and fully convexed a CG NMFBM .... IMO the lighter aspect of the CG version is a bonus when it comes to "utility" as you can use the knife easier in a machete role .... and still have a great knife for chopping .... it really covers all bases ....

For a straight design, nothing will outchop the nmfbmle with that full convex grind. You could pick up a NMFBM, and do the convexing your self and save some coin.

Heck, even FBMLE's have gone down in price. They are literally hundreds less than they were going for two years ago.

My chopper is the fbmle with a convex edge. It is a heavy sucker. Not as much so as the FFBM.

I have never chopped with anything else in the Busse family, so I am not the best advice giver.

The CG NMFBM is also a full convex grind down to a very fine edge, at least mine is anyway. :)

From what I have found out the main difference between the CG and the LE is the LE is thicker. :)

NMFBM definitely for pure chopping.

As far as the BWM goes, it's a great blade, but even a CGFBM outchops it. Buy the BWN if you want a great knife, not if you want a chopper.

Yea, I think you need to get one of these =) And then you'll have to get some AK47 to compare them to, lol. Yea, it'll never stop... But why stop when you are having so much fun...

keep in mind you can still get the BWM at factory prices though

I would be surprised if anyone could destroy the BWM without trying to on purpose. It's a great knife and can do much more than just chop. Don't miss out. ;)

To answer your question - you didn't ask which knife chopped the best, you asked which knife was the best "Chopper". To me, the best chopper style knife (in the world) is probably the Bushwacker Battle Mistress.

I've had a lighter Battle Mistress (The Zero Tolerance BM) and felt it was too light. I have a heavier model (the Fusion CG BM) and believe that it's a bit too heavy to be ideal. I love the CGBM and use it around the workshoip (for sculpting). For prolonged use, it's hard on the old elbow (bursitis style) and feels a bit like e a too heavy hammer. For long hikes or wilderness use, I think it's a bit too heavy for a typical wilderness kit (that's just me). I hope I will never sell my CGFBM because I love it and especially like the cool G-10 Black and Green handle, which is for me, one of the most elegant patterned handle materials ever.

Getting back to the point, I think that the Bushwacker is the almost perfect weight for a chopper. It's heavy enough not to break during use and to be a terrific chopper but it's not too heavy as to be fatiguing or a hindrance.

Therfore the best Busse "chopper" is the Bushwacker Battle Mistress. That's my two sense!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh you are so right, it never ends man...

I don't think there would be a huge difference in performance between the LE and CG NMFBM sinse the two blades are almost exact except the LE is slightly thicker.

Maybe one day I will get a LE NMFBM to compare the two.

Well as I expected I have been inundated with excellent advice.

Thanks again for everybody's two cents so far!

I ordered the BWM LE recently because I thought it would be light enough to actually carry and bring with me all the time, and just heavy enough to chop through some big stuff easily. Website says it's .220" thick.
