Battle Mistress, SR-101 or INFI

Hey guys,

So, I'm conflicted--I have lots of infi (but nothing big), and no SR-101 at all. I want a Battle Mistress. I prefer to buy from Busse direct and not the secondary market. With the guardless BG Mistress dropping tomorrow, I am pretty excited... but it is SR-101 and not infi. I have seen all the evidence demonstrating SR-101's durability and greatness, and yet, I am still thinking about waiting for a big infi chopper to come along. WHAT TO DO??? Any and all advice is welcomed! If you were faced with the choice of buying a SR-101 BM now or waiting for an INFI one later (maybe???) what would you do? I have lots of firewood to chop, things to cut, etc., so whatever I get will see use.

Thanks brothers.

Get the uncovered base covered. Buy the mistress now, then when the big stuff shows up, buy that.

What's your budget like?

I was leaning this way, but it is easier to justify one big expensive blade (every so often) vs several... fourth kid on the way, life is expensive!

I would get the new one now, who knows when you'll get another chance. I have an sr-101 sycko 11-11 and it's a beast.

Get the BG while you can. You won't likely get a better price for factory-new. Keep in mind, similar sized INFI will cost an additional ~$200 over the price of the BGDGBM. SR-101 is still pretty good stuff!

Ugh... tough choices. I can't complain though, if these are my problems. ;)

I just want to be sure that I'm making the best choice for a chopper.

You won't likely find a better price on a Battle Mistress than what's dropping tomorrow, which is a great thing with a fourth kid on the way. Under $350 for a Battle Mistress is pretty amazing.

If you happen to find the right deal on your infi mistress, you can sell your sr101 mistress likely without taking a hit on it. So buy now provided you like what's offered.

You might like your SR101 BG Mistress so much that you won't feel that you need to get one in INFI. You may, however, still want one. You and we know, the 'Kool Aid' and all that.

Get the Sr-101. I plan to. I'm just waiting for the pics of the double talon before I decide which. I'd love a striped INFI, but there's no guaranteed it's coming. So I'm planning on getting one or the other of these.

One can never have too many Mistresses...  :D

This, and yes, you are in trouble. I've had more than 20 blades filter through my possession over the last year...... I've got TWO for sure keepers. TWO.......

Gotta try it to know if it'll stick bro. Plus, you've got kids that'll need to beat on that sr101 to help their grandkids wear it out.....

I'm just waiting for the pics of the double talon
Ditto. I figure grinding off the talons will be a simple task; so that won't deter me....so it will be a matter of which want will win. Do I "settle" for this offering, or hold out for the one that may never come (BMe)?
Only time will tell.

Don't hesitate. To me the INFI/SR101 debate isn't an issue because of the lower price point. Hesitation leads to a later purchase and at a higher price.

If you want it, get it straight from Jerry and crew. Best deal. $337 is a screamin' deal, especially compared to the $407 the price will rise to after the 1st 72 hours. If SR 101 has 90% of the performance of INFI at 70% of the price, $337 is just about right compared to the ASHBM CG. That blade was $487. ($487 X 0.7 = $340.90.) Think of it as a 2nd chance for an ASHBM that can save you $150. Later on the EX they'll get at least $50 - $75 more for it and that auction site is for the uninformed or desperate.

SR101 is an outstanding steel for a chopper, if you don't have a blade in this size,,, I would go for it.

You guys make too much sense... Trouble indeed... Now, let's see this thing!

No worries Aias. You will always find help on this forum.

The justification for this blade and at least three more is contained in your quote above.

These are HEIRLOOMS.... not knives. A Busse blade like this will last forever. It gives you something to pass down to your kids.

So you tell the wife: "I've been thinking about our kids. Can we sell one?" (no scratch that part) "I have searched the world for an amazing knife to pass down to our children.... a true heirloom so they have something to remember us by when we are long gone. Every time they handle this finely crafted blade they will think about how much we love them... and the best news is this: I think I can have it in hand by the time the baby is born!"

:D :D :D :D :D

That will sound a lot better than "Hey babe.... I just dropped a bunch of cash on a knife...It's awesome tho"

.

It's an easy argument that Busse and Kin are a good investment. Unused they sell for more than what you paid, used you can often get what you paid, or barely less.
What else can you say that about?
Cars, shoes, handbags, nope nope nope
