Battle Mistress vs. Copperhead

my last run in with a rattler was in Utah. I was up at some relatives house and almost stepped on a baby rattler with shorts and flip flops on.

I jumped over it right as it struck at my foot.

It coiled up and kept striking at me. If I had been out in the boonies I would have just left it alone, but it was about 2 feet away from a group of little toddlers in the front yard of the family's house. I did shovel that one, because it was so tiny and quick I did not think I could safely catch it and move it some where.

The day before, one of the neighbor kids caught a little "gardner snake" and was showing it off to their mom. It bit her and oops, not a gardner snake, it was a baby rattler.

what part of utah?

Big man with a big knife kills a little snake. Very sad.
I'm with the snakes. :eek::thumbup::D

Eric had an awesome idea. Make a sheath out of it:thumbup:

I realize some folks love snakes, hell we even have a pet corn snake however if I am out in the woods and run across one I will kill it without giving it a second thought, same with pretty much any other animal that can do harm (obviously venemous snakes). I say good kill and agree that it would make a really nice sheath :thumbup:

If I run upon a snake in the woods I try to give it a little respect, after all I'm passing through his back yard. Black snakes ignore, but if I find a rattlesnake or copperhead within sight of my home I drop the knife and give them the buckshot. I've crawled over these mountains surveying when I was younger and try to be aware of my surroundings. The kids on the road have not learned that skill yet.

I don't believe that... is that the whole story? Cause I'm huge snake guy and usually that's not what they do.... And it's been pretty cold out so I don't think that they are that active now... Snakes aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be...

Agreed, copperheads are not aggressive and dont just strike. Unless being harassed with a BM.

Great pic. I have a bama clay BM, maybe my favorite Busse.

No need to justify killing it. Killing things is fun. Gutsy move with a blade, when I lived in NM and had to dispatch a rattler in the woodpile or yard I used a shovel. NMFBM is long, but I prefer a little more distance!

No need to call names. Is this what we want to teach our children; "Killing things is fun"?

Of course its fun. Ever get that rush when you hit a flying dove or that perfect shot when you drop a buck?

Sorry for putting it so bluntly. But yes, it is a lot of fun, and that is what it comes down to.
