Hey to everybody who has a BATTLE PAPPY,

Has anybody actually used their knife to do some work?

Or are you still too early in the honeymoon to do anything more than look, and
dream in anticipation of Spring time?

It would be great to hear some reviews now that you have had time with this knife.

What say?

Honeymoon. :D

Actually, I never planned on using mine. I have too many other Busse's that would fill the same role and we are restricted from carrying bowie knives in PA. So, mine are for the collection safe.

Aww Dang...if everybody just quarantines their pig and don't never let it out to play...

How will we know if it's good pork or bad pork?

Dang, you never even tried to sharpen a pencil?

Ok...anybody else from this small group of "honeymooners"?

Shane

Nope. I can tell just by holding it that it's "good pork" with a nice sharp edge. ;)

Ordered mine this week and I can't wait to see it in person. I don't expect mine to be a user either, but you never know! Oh I bet it's going to look sooooo good and feel great in the hand.

I'll never forget my first time...that is, my first big Busse purchase and feeling it in my hand. Oh yeah! I'll just stop now, I don't like where this is going.

Just wondering, what would you use it for? If you plan on chopping, there are much better BMs out there for that with normal handles with solid tube fasteners. It's too big to be a good gutter. I don't think many people would use that because there is no many hand to hand wars going on anymore and like the other thread, not really a great option for zombies. And the MUK is avil if you want to use a good one to cook with... So what were you thinking of using it for?

Call or email the shop. Tell them you want one. I don't think it's a hog only thing.

Please tell me how and where have you ordered it ? I've tried that and haven't succeeded... Is it another hog only thing ? Just wanna know.

It was up for pre-ordering at the...AG Russell Show, IIRC? It may have been possible to jump on the list at the shows following, but I can't be sure. I still believe that it will be offered again through the Custom Shop in one configuration or another sometime in the future. :) It was definitely NOT for HOGs only.

Sounds like a plan! ...But just remember that they are somewhere under a virtual mountain of emails trying to sort their way out to fresh air, so be patient, please, 'cause it might be deep into next week before you might get a response. :)

I hope that you get one! They are sweet.

I used mine a bunch to make sheaths with. :)

I think it would be a good chopper, and a excellent fighter.

I think I may know some folks that would disagree with that. Including me.

I am not a professional knife fighting instructor, but I sure personally know a bunch of them, and a big bowie is a good "gutter" and fighting knife.

There is still a conflict going on overseas, that I know for an absolute fact Hand to Hand combat is happening.

Bowies have been used as fighters for years.

Hmmm?

What would one use a "bowie" style knife for? Are we talking in a traditional,
"tied on the end of a tether" use?

If we are talking about the knife that gentleman carried inside their waistbands to settle matters of honor, then possibly there are ways to decide if it will perform properly. (I don't mean spending a few hundred bucks on a half of a beef critter like folks are known to do to prove a point.) It seems this forum has a bunch of creative people who do interesting things with their knives, just to show how good they are. (I just got a visual image of those crazy Russian guys...I mean crazy in a good way.)

Moving on...

Are we talking about the "bowie" in the "western settlement" sense? Because once again there should be ways to check performance and have fun. Now I am thinking of my friends in the A.B.S. who have a bunch a fun , mostly safe ways to create "knife games" which not only test knives, but also knife handlers.

So if i understand it, folks just bought them to "hold"?

Hmmm?

Are these knives just purchased as collector's item since they are the FIRST EVER Busse Custom offering? I guess I can see that.

But, dang! as a maker it would fry my cookies to go to the trouble to design and build a knife that had no "use". Especially, if I went to build my very own rendition of what I choose to call "THE AMERICAN KNIFE".

I fully expected this thread to die a quiet death. Maybe everybody has done enough work with their knives that they only use one or two regularly. The rest are because they love Busse knives, which is a heck of a statement about the BCKCo.

Well, I hope somebody finds a use for this knife. It would be a darn shame to never know "IF".

For me, when I buy a new tool, whether it is a rifle, or a backpack or a hedge trimmer I like to know that it will do what I bought it for. If its a piece of junk, then I can go find what will work.

Sorry to be so preachy. I was really surprised this thread popped up.

There you go.

Shane
