Battle Rat

Black on Black, Battle Guard, Tan on Tan, Through Hardened Black blade Tan Handle, Satin Battle Rat (Tan handles with one particular one with a black handle.....). I think there were a few camo jobs out there.

Did they have all the same specs? Blade length, thickness, etc?

The Satin may be a tad thinner and or shorter just from the additional grinding on it. But for all purposes, I would say same specs.

I just got rid of my SBR, like a MORON-one of the worst moves of my life. Love the balance of these blades and their feel in the hand. The SBR, the BG, and the black on black were differentially treated, IIRC, while the tan & black was thorough hardened. Does anyone disagree that these blades are so tough and well treated that the differential treatment gives any real advantage?

And I really appreciate it! its a heck of a blade!!

Battle Rats...MY FAVORITE BUSSE-Kin BLADE!!! The SBR and Battle Guard's have a Full Height Grind where the rest are Saber Ground. I have a Battle Guard on the way (should be here tomorrow, so now I just need a SBR to complete my BR Trifecta.) I don't think anyone is going to tell you that you're going to get a HUGE advantage with the DHT, but it's nice to know a little extra effort was made to make these a teeeeeny tiiiiiiiiny bit tougher. Unless you wear a hockey mask and destroy knives in the name of research and entertainment, you and I will never notice the minor difference.

A couple of old Battle Rat Pics until the BG and maybe someday SBR get here...

I would like to know this as well.

The Battle Rat, Camp Tramp and Gen 1 Howling Rat.......the 3 quintessential knives!!!

CAMO AMMO CUPCAKES!?!?!?!?!??!

for the win.

Also I have my rodent 9 in the mail... I will soon be able to compare the sbr with the rodent 9

Do you know if there was only one with a black handle? I snagged one from Skunk years ago, and at the time Eric thought there were 3 or 4 out there. Anyone else have a factory SBR with a black handle?

From what I heard, 3-4 were made with 2 or 3 being the "test" blades and thus their fate was to never leave the compound intact. With only 1 escaping the same fate as the others. Or so that is what I think I remember hearing....then again, I know I know nothing.

200 for a true Satin Battle Rat is a flipping steal!!!!

The Battle Rat was my first "Busse" kin knife. It was my gateway drug, my first and still one one of the best blades ever made. Now if only I could talk a certain person into parting ways with a black handle Satin Battle Rat!!!!!!

Who is this that has the Black Satin Battle Rat you speak of?

:D:D

My first 3 *Real* knives, purchased not long after SRKW opened. Fall of 2002??

WAY before Eric became a bully. LOL

Still have and use all 3. The CT especially, in the garden.

I paid $265 through the Exchange for my Battle Guard back in 5/2007 -- I don't own a "normal" BR.

The Battle Guard is one of the most unique Swamp Rats out there, I love it. :D
