My wife wished to go to Reno for a big rodeo there. Soooo off to Reno we went by car. This is a 14 hour drive for us so long ways. I don't gamble much, or drink much and don't really like crowds or traffic so Reno in general wasn't a good fit for me. It was fun, there was some great things, like Harrah's car museum, the rodeo was good, a visit to nearby Virginia City was good but not really wheelchair friendly.
BUT what was really great and made the whole trip worth while was a visit to Auntie live and in person. I'd contacted her prior to going and she agreed to a visit. So early one afternoon we found her place and I had such a great time. Wife learned a lot and really liked Auntie right off.
I asked if she happened to have a 25" Sirupati about as I've wanted one but was concerned it would just be too big. Auntie took wife as I could'nt access due to the chair, went in the house where she gifted wife with a beautiful scarf, or shawl, not sure what you call em but it's pretty, then off to the back someplace, and back to me with a gorgeous Siru in hand. Wife took pictures of the storage area and I knew I had to find a way to get there to see it.
Managed to utilize my van lift to get over a curb and then worked our way around some stuff and got with in sight of the door and the the blade show began. Think of it as a Tupperware party for Khukri's. I couldn't really see inside but Auntie started going back and forth bring out different knives, there was a ton of them and I fell in love over and over and over again.
Saw some of the new Ani? knives, bonecutters, on and on and on. Swords, bowies, one had such beautiful fullers on it, I nearly teared up, I just sent a message to auntie on that one, I can't remember what it was, an ang kola I think but I was on sensory overload. Totally overwhelmed. Wife learned a lot and wants me to show her some of the stuff on the website for history and stuff about the kami's etc. This will make things much nicer when I want another blade, hopefully she will remember the visit for a long long time.
I knew from my emails with Auntie that she was a classy and very nice person. This was really confirmed in person. Just a super nice lady, very personable. I was a bit reluctant to bother her and we had so much to do in such a short time that I nearly didn't make the visit but I'm so glad that I did, it was again the highlight of the trip for me, and I'm eternally grateful that she allowed us to visit. It was perhaps only a half hour or 45 minutes but I loved every second of it.
Here's my photo evidence. Pictures or it didn't happen, I know the rules. As I went to hand the Sirupati back to Auntie she asked if it was on my want list, I told her it indeed was, even more so after having held it and she said then you keep it. I pleaded although not hard enough to pay, it was too much of a gift but she would have none of that. I was and still am awestruck.
I'm the fat guy in the wheelchair. I wanted to get a picture of Auntie and my wife but in all the excitement we didn't get that one.

Thank you again Auntie for allowing our visit and of course the gifts. To get them from you personally makes it very special indeed.
