Bawanna's Beautiful Brilliance

I didn't make those grips, I did modify them significantly for thickness and to fit the bobtail job.

I'll keep my eye's peeled for some dramatic contrast wood with gurkha berserka wrote in the grain.

I'm always easy, well not always easy but I can be had.

Thanks man, I've been waiting for a good set of blanks for years now. I love the light yellow almost white sap wood with swirling red, black, and gold heart wood. I trust your judgement, I am sure you will come across a winner:thumbup:

What kind a tree I need to chop down to find that exactly. Well now I have seen some Coco Bolo that kind of met that description now that I ponder it some.

Since you have the scary parts behind you it looks awesome nice radius you got there. I have had bobtails but right now none of my 1911s are. It doesn't seem to make much difference to me which as long as it a 1911 :D

Yeah people ask me why I do it, my usual first answer is because I can.

They just feel good to me. Plus they look a little different and that fits me so well being a little different and all.

I'm eye balling my Ruger pretty hard now too. If I do that and I'm trying to hold off I'll make sure you get a chance to fondle it for comparison.

...
I sweated profusely on this one, second one I've done. Getting the new mounting hole in the right spot is the critical move.
...
You aint kiddin! I know this firsthand:thumbup: Excellent job! Beautiful grips again!

Pardon my gross ignorance but whats a bobtail? I dont think were talking about trailers?

A Bobtail is when they remove material from the mainspring housing. It is a angle cut to reduce the "printing" effect when concealed carrying. Look at the picture of Bawann's stag grip... Notice the angle cut? It's been done to 1911's pretty regularly for the last ten years or so. I prefer the standard frame with an arched mainspring housing due to my big ole hands. It does offer better concealment.
Most people worry about barrel length, but it isn't hard to conceal long barrels. Barrel length doesn't affect concealment because it's the easiest part to hide in the pants. The frame is what is exposed when holstered carrying. The removal of that little piece of material produces a much more concealable pistol.

I gotcha.Your right that corner would be sticking out snaggin your shirt and such. So what Bawanna did was cut that part off the frame and also the grips to match? You dont have to relocate the bushings though right? Cool mod btw. I like it:thumbup:

Nothing changes except the pin location that holds the main spring housing on and of course a few minutes with a hack saw to cut the corner off..

Large handed folks probably wouldn't like it. It does really help with printing through your shirt or cover garment.

Oh That pin! I thought you meant the grip bushings. That makes plenty more sense. I got to get me one of them fancy steel 1911's i guess. My niece is pesterin me to take her out shooting again so looks like ill be out shootin again soon! I need to shoot up some 12 gauge shells anyway. She can play with the glock. My wife also is pestering me to get her CHL. Theres a house bill in the Texas senate today to allow open carry and a carry on college campus. Campus carry may pass but I doubt open carry will? Lots of shooting stuff comin up lately?

There is a lot of Pro Gun legislation on the table for a change. The BATF just backed down in their illegal .223/5.56 ammo ban. They were trying to ban rifle ammo because some pistols can fire it. They said the green tip penatrator 5.56 round was "armor piercing" which it's NOT!!! Black tip ammo is the armor piercing stuff.

There are AR pistols on the market now and they tried to lump that caliber into an existing law that bans armor piercing pistol ammo. The 5.56mm is a rifle round period!!! It doesn't matter if there are pistols that can shoot it. There were previsions written in the law to protect any rifle round that can be fired in a pistol due to the Thompson Center Contender pistol that shoots any rifle round you can think of.

Another thing they fail to mention is that ANY 5.56mm round will penetrate a bullet resistant best. Heck even the lead core m193 round will penetrate a lvl3a body armor. .223 soft point will also zip right through a vest. Bullet proof vests only work against pistols and shotguns.

Almost 1 million people contact the ATF and 43 senators wrote them to inform them they were breaking the law with the ban. Even the original drafter of the bill wrote them and said they were misleading, lying, and breaking the "spirit" of the law.

We won this one but its a constant fight. I wrote the ATF, my two senators, and my state rep a few weeks ago telling them of my displeasure with the ATF's bullet grab. The 22lr ammo is still non existant because all the cheap used rifle/pistol brass was ordered to be destroyed instead of recycled by executive order #1,000,000 . They can't ban the guns so they try and dry up the ammo supply through back channels. Wouldn't recycling the brass be a better idea than destroying it? We all need to stay on our ties when it comes to our birth rights. Firearm ownership is a birthright, or "natural" right bestowed on is by our maker. It's not granted to us by anyone! That's all I have to say about that :D

@gurkha--- I buy blanks all the time on the auction site and several exotic woods dealers sell chocobolo but it is now on the CITES list and can only be traded in the USA; almost certain you could find the right thing if you look around.

and nobody can get your guns, I am a die hard tree hugging liberal and I have gun collection that dwarfs my knife collection;( just don't think there will ever be support for removal of guns if sandy hook etc did not get them, nothing will ) atf is the weakest organization in the federal government, and they are really nice when they visit.-- but had no idea that the reason for no 22lr was the brass thing ; cool. I am just now seeing boxes again.

I'm not sure chocobolo is the wood I am looking for. I've seen a ton of grips made from them. They lack the extreme figuring I am looking for . I was thinking more along the lines of Honduran rosewood but it's hard to find. I have a gorgeous set of Australian Morrel Burl grips in it now, but I want something darker. You are the wood master, be on the lookout for me will ya...

Oh I wouldn't say the ATF is weak, they made more than a few people's lives miserable. I'm not sure if it was them or the national guard that were performing no knock house raids and collecting up al the guns during hurricane Katrina, even while the people were still living there. I could understand going through empty houses to collect guns that might fall into the wrong hands but it's unforgivable to disarm a citizen of this country for no reason. There was a handicapped gentleman that had a shotgun to protect his property. He posted signs warning looters to stay off his property. Well, they marched up to his house (police/guard/ATF not sure) kicked down his door and took his guns. They left a handicapped man unarmed during some of the worst looting in history. Watch the videos on YouTube... Crazy stuff.
They are working everyday to take away our natural rights. This is turning into a police state and I think people are turning a blind eye or have their head in the sand if you don't see it. There are tens of thousands of people in Connecticut. They turned into felons over night because they refused to register their "assault rifles". It's happening everywhere. Colorado had to recall some of its representatives after they voted for crazy new laws. Don't get me started brotha...

yeah I think new orleans is a good case study for communities and government even though they were in an especially crappy geographical location, many screw ups at the local level made things much worse -- I am glad when I see the news that I live where I live, as I only feel the way I do because of Tennessee, and guns are a religion here. you are right about conn, I really kinda glazed all that over when reading about it because it was not federal attack on gun rights, was local. I just don't ever see that happening where I live, should have been more specific.

but yeah I am with you man, guns are supremely important to american identity, and our security from government; but this is definitely a world unlike anyone has ever faced, they learned more about genetics in the past 20 years than in the past 20000000 same for most areas of knowledge, so it all pretty much blows me away lol-- my advice is gather as many guns as you can and then lose them on a hunting trip :D

I can see we share the same opinion of firearms and their importance. I wish I lived a gun friendly state. I am in probably the second worst state for gun rights. Not for long though... going to by a house in good ole New Hampshire... the live free or die state. It actually says that on car licenses plates Live Free or Die! I love it.

New Hampshire actually abolished all its knife laws a few years ago. You can freely walk down the street with a 21in Kobra on your side and a AR15 slung to your back without being hassled by the police. Open carry is legal as well as concealed concerning knives. Open carry is fully legal with all firearms but you do need a CCW permit or conceal carry, although it is a "Shall Issue" state meaning they cant deny you unless you are a felon.

What part of Tennessee are you from? My wife's sister lives there.

I am about 70 miles outside of memphis, west TN, in the hatchie river water shed. I intend to die here :D , I love it like family( the land)-- sounds like you know whats up, NH sounds like a great place to live, I don't often have a need to carry a sword around, but it would sure be cool if I could !

According to some people, if I were to believe them, NH-ers will wipe themselves out in oblivion, so it'll be the "die" part that will become true.

Note to self: if ever moving away from Yurp to US, strongly consider NH.

Moon, if you ever decide to move to the US, just avoid both coasts and you will be fine :D While I love Washington State for many things, I do wish all the California wanna-be's in Seattle would quit their emotions over logic voting.

Taking notes, again. Just imagine how my stepfather (who grew up in Arizona) must feel in California with all that crazy stuff going on! :D

But they (him and my mother) will move away soon, to a more normal place indeed.

(Oh they have a very nice neighbor, retired Marine, that would dare anyone come take his big guns away. Very, very nice fellow. He's not much of a typical Californian.)

The coasts are the only place to live. I see the ocean every morning and it fills my soul.
I willbe buying a new house in New Hampshire in the near future. Something about the live free or die state, the smell and sound of the ocean... It's paradise!
