Bayonet as primary heavy duty/beater blade?

...Gotta plug my new favorite cheap Bowie: the Kabar Short Heavy Bowie. It has ~7.5" blade of 1085 steel that is wide & thinly ground; very easy to keep sharp & an excellent field knife:http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=ka1276

You may have to modify the handle if you've got smaller hands (I did) - it's not the Camp Tramp but it's pretty dang close for all intents & purposes. And the wide thin blade makes for a decent expedient machete...

if you like busse designs try ranger rd series knives , they are patternd after the busse steel heart and can be customized to your specs. the retail price runs 100$ for the 7 inch and 90$ for the six. a good buy if you ask me . got one of the rd7 s and love it .

I didnt notice anyone in here talking about the M9 bayonet as a possibility. The M9 is a great servicable blade (420 stainless) w/ a saw on the spine. The drawback is weight - the M9 goes nearly 2 lbs with the hard scabbard. They are also a little pricey from some vendors - but try these guys for info and good deals. www.newworldoutdoors.com. Bayonets can be great field knives.
