Bayou LaFourche

I've had a few transactions with Roger in the past, and today was my first with Kristi. As you say, the service is first rate.

I even got an email with UPS confirmation hours after the transaction.

We are fortunate to have them available to us.

Bugs,

I agree that if one didn't look further a person might get the wrong impression. That said, it's clear that Nimrod has great respect for Roger, Kristi and Bayou LaFourche as do you.

Frankly, even if you didn't care for the method of presentation, I think you went a bit overboard in attacking Nimrod personally here.

My opinion is that you should lighten up a bit and I don't mean that in a harsh way. I mean, don't take it so seriously.

I'd imagine that if someone was contemplating a transaction with Bayou LaFourche, they'd probably read the post in which case they'd find out that it was a spoof.

If they weren't interested in Bayou, then they'd pass it by. I think there have been enough glowing reports to counterbalance any negative effect.

That said, I think that Bugs' point is a valid one as has been pointed out in the past and having a subject line that looks critical may not be the best way to start the thread.

Perhaps if the subject line just said "Bayou LaFourche" and forced a person to open the thread to find out what was to be said, it might be a better technique to introject a bit of humor.

In any case, I'm not going to take any action on this, myself. If Spark feels that it needs to be addressed I'll allow him to do so.

I'll copy the thread to the Back End so he sees it and can comment on it.

Bayou LaFourche is BAD for my personal finances. Roger and Kristi are always so helpful, so nice, so caring that I find myself calling them and ordering stuff even when i do not really need stuff. This has served to the detriment of my personal finances!

They take time to help you, even on sales of small dollar value. They treat customers as a cherished asset to their business and go out of their way to help. This is not good for my wallet as I save money with the uncaring and snotty dealers who I wind up hanging up on.

With Roger and Kristi, I have no need to hang up, get the help I ask for and wind up placing an order. This is bad for my pocket. They take customer service seriously. They get orders out quickly. They are honest about what is in-stock. This is all BAD if you are looking to get abused and lied to, hang up, forget the order and save money.

I felt compelled to share the above to protect fellow Forumites!

Well, if/when one or more of the following occur, I will immediately attempt to remediate/rectify the situation.
1. Roger and/or Kristi contact me with a sentiment akin to yours;
2. I complete the 5th and/or 6th grades in humor.

In the mean time, I still think that Bayou LaFourche is one of the very best out there, Roger and Kristi are great and humor doesn't stop at the the 6th grade!

In my relatively brief time on the forums, I know for sure that once, and I believe it is twice, that would-be humorists have been taken to task for using misleading subject lines in this forum. The fact is there are too many forumites who read only the subject line, and don't open it to learn it is a juvenile effort at humor. Even if the intention is truly honorable, the potential negative impact is great.

I particularly care in this instance, because Bayou LaFourche is my favorite of the web knife vendors. They don't deserve badmouthing at all, in any fashion, even if it is a stupid joke.

EDIT: Yoo Hoo Moderator(s): Was gonna start a new thread, but decided to say what I had to say here. Why can't childish threads such as this be deleted when they pop up? They cannot help but have a deleterious effect on the attitudes of some forumites for the company/individual they supposedly wish to praise. I am convinced that some people will not read such a thread, but the title -- even tho the comany's name is misspelled -- will stick in their mind, and when they consider what company to buy from, will rule out the totally innocent victim of a childish prank. This is 5th and 6th grade stuff here. It doesn't belong in an adult medium.

They are awesome!
Kristi is cool.
Roger is cool.

I have bought 3 knives from them.
BKT BRUTE.
CS Desperado.
GERBER Yari.

Great prices. Great service.

Since I live in Baton Rouge, UPS Ground is next day for me.

Two thumbs and 8 fingers up!!!!:D :D :D :D :D :D

FWIW, I don't think the post should stand if the title can't be changed. I came in here, guns drawn, ready to stand up for Roger. I'm glad to see that BL's service is still what it always has been, but misleading topics on GBU are less than kosher.

Brian,

Good point. I just went ahead and changed the title to Bayou LaFourche and we'll leave it at that.

Nimrod I hope you see why and I think it'll be better for all concerned.

Hmm ... this is interesting. I just wrote a long reply in my word processor and was about to paste it in and now I see Blues edited the title -- that's a new capability! With the UBB software we used until recently it wasn't possible to edit a thread title. That changes things....

Well, I'll still paste in my post, most of it is still valid -- but the conclusion isn't. :)

--------------------------------------

I don't know if anybody reads just the titles and makes their decisions without reading the whole thread. If anybody does they put their faith in some thieves and miss out on some good dealers, and not just from jokes. You might say if there is anybody who'd take the word of some stranger on the net without bothering to look at the replies he got deserves to be misinformed, but what about the dealers gaining or losing business without deserving to?

There are people who seriously argue forums like this should be abolished, trial by internet is always mistrial, consumers are not intelligent enough to read what other consumers have to say about a dealer and sort the wheat from the chaff and make an informed decision for themselves. Obviously, I disagree with that viewpoint....

Speaking for myself, I don't find the endlessly repeated joke amusing; I didn't even think it was funny the first time -- but this forum was well established before I got myself suckered into moderating it, and so was the joke. There's no question of going through all archives and deleting it wherever it appears, much less deleting every thread that comes to an opposite conclusion than the title. Every now and then someone objects to the joke and we have a discussion about it, and then it gets less common for a while ... but it always comes back again. I'm afraid we're stuck with it.

Blues: Good job. No problem here on this end; sorry to have put you through the trouble.

Brian: Glad you got a kick out of it.

Rober/Kristi: See what travails your excellant service cause. You think you would have jumped in and either yelled at me or supported me by now. Guess you are too busy doing what you do best, taking real good care of knife knut kustomers.

Those who run around with "9-1" pre-dialed all the time and their finger on the "1" : I guess humor is only funny where welcome. To even up the score, throw a humoristic shot across my bow. I won't mind a bit and it would probably be good - for the both of us!

Geez, this "hubub" is ridiculous. I think Nimrod was not out of line at all...seems to me some people are awfully defensive around here!

Any moron interested in doing business with someone "supposedly misaligned" would have opened this thread and read what it was about.

Much to do about NOTHING!

I agree that I went a bit overboard in my post the other day. I apologize, Nimrod, for not just writing to you, or posting much more mildly.

FWIW, that same day, I discovered that a pharmacist or pharmacist's aide at my co-op had mistakenly given me a double dose of a fairly powerful medication I have been taking for nearly 4 years.

As I am now fading to my normal level of haze and forgetfulness, I am much more aware now of just how goofy I was. I am sorry. A more intelligent person would just have shut up, and waited for what passes as my level of normalcy returned.

I happen to believe that some information taken in at a near subliminal level does remain with us, and can contribute to opinions, which upon examination may be based on nothing factual or remembered.

As Cougar said, I don't think the joke was funny the first time, but it still will return again. Hopefully, the next time I can keep out of it, or say something shy of a flame.

Bugs3x,

Apology accepted. Heck, I get that way once in awhile - and I don't even take medication.
