BBQ's

Got an old Weber Genesis from the late 90's that came with the cast iron grills. Upgraded to the stainless flavor bars a couple
of years ago and just bought a new factory cover in May. Expensive for the times @ 500 bucks, but I laugh at my brother-
in law who buys a Costco Char Broil every couple of years for the same $ and thinks he's a wizard. As long as parts are
available I see no reason to change...

I'm with you on that..add to that they have one of the best customer service departments in the world. We sell a ton of them.

I don't know why you'd want a toilet made of solid gold. What's the performance advantage? ;)

But seriously, I'm in the market for a new gas grill too. What do you have? Budget I'd like to keep under $1,000 but not end of the world. However, while I like grilling for parties, 95% of it will be just for me and my wife for dinners so I don't really need a grill with a lot of square inches.

This is where gas shines. When it's just you and the wife, just fire up one or two burners. When the neighborhood comes over, light the rest. Gas is easily scalable.

Mine is a Weber Summit 6P... the big, six burner model. I got it on an end-of-the-season closeout.

Speaking of which, if you can hold out for another month or so, the end-of-season sales will begin and you can get the best price.

I ended up getting a Weber Genesis 3 burner with an extra sear burner, which as far as I can tell is just a small burner between two of the main burners. It works great. It heats up in half the time of my old gas grill. Has a side burner that I've actually used a fair amount due to it being so hot this summer I never want to turn on the stove or oven inside after the sun comes up. I paid $800, which I thought was pretty expensive, but it is heavy duty and I don't think I'll have to buy another grill for 20 years.

An excellent choice. I know several people with Genesis grills who have been using them for years and years.

And, as you point out, a side burner is a wonderful accessory that let's you move most cooking out-of-the-house on hot days. It also really allows you to prepare much richer meals on your grill.

Cover it when not in use and give it about twenty minutes of spring cleaning each year and it will give you many years of excellent service.... and great meals.

Buy quality and you'll only cry once.
