BC West Coast pics

Hey folks,

Thought you would appreciate these pics that I took this weekend. I went on a company trip over to Vancouver Island and experienced the real west coast of Canada. Did some sightseeing, hiking, fishing, (and upchucking, but we need not get into that).

Here are a couple pics.

This is Cathedral Grove in the middle of the island. It is an old growth forest which means some trees in there grow up to 10 feet in diameter and can be centuries old.

A bear on the way to our destination... It saddened me to see it so friendly to people, especially so near a road. It seems like this one is destined to be hit by a car... No good..

California sea lions hanging out on the rocks. They spend 9-10 months up here in BC, at least the males do... They go back to California in the summer to get busy, and then come back up to BC to get away from any responsibilities.

between you, pitdog, and every other person from BC it seems like we're convincing or atleast tempting many of the other members here to move to "Beautiful" british columbia :D

thanks for the photos. i haven't been to that area for a while so it was a nice trip down memory lane.

Looks like a great trip! I went up to the Olympic region in Washington and it sure is beautiful up there!
 
Great shots, I live on the east coast, see the Atlantic everyday. You really come to respect the power of those dumping waves. I share your concern about the bear.
 
Awesome pictures! Too bad it's so damn wet :p . I love visiting the west coast but I don't think a Manitoba redneck could survive all that cloud through the winter. That's part of the reason I want to move to Lethbridge Alberta (even more sun than Winnipeg sans the -40C) that and they have "Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump" which is possibly the most kickass name ever :D .

Great pics! Haven't been to Tofino for so long...beautiful area!
Did you make it into Port Alberni? Heard it's really built up, though I think the lumber mill was shut down...not sure.
