Have you used a wire saw.I got this as a part of my BCB Military Survival Kit.I find it very uncomfortable to use and not enough "agressive" cutter. It's no mach to a large folding saw.The saws of my SAK's are better too.I think it's no good for any outdoor tasks.Try to cut a branch with it and you'll understand.:DThe biggest minus of it,I think,is that it should always be straight to cut any good. And I suppose that it's not hard to rip it off.

I have used one, it is better than nothing but I replaced mine with a pocket chainsaw. I also used to curl a bow saw blade in my largest cooking pot and that worked OK too. Both were better than the wire saw but neither was as light and easy to pack as the commando one.

If I remember right you can also use it on bone say for butcheriing large prey which you couldn't do with either of my other saws.

Hideous things, I've broken loads of them from one vendor or another including BCB. I've got them pegged in that 80's gimmick bucket with the space blanket and the Buckmaster.

I used one once and it broke, so bought a Pocket Chainsaw. Great tool. Later on I switched to a folding saw because somehow I get tired quickly when using the Pocket Chainsaw while I can be sawing forever with the folding saw. Don't ask me why. You can also use the folding saw with just one hand while you push the branches in the right direction so it doesn't get pinched. You can't do that with the Pocket Chainsaw.

I have one of the BCB's. They really aren't that good. They get stuch in the smallest knots and can kink easily too. SAK saws don't have the reach that a wire saw does, but they are much more efficient. The Pocket Chainsaw is very efficient, has reach, and packs very easily in its tin (I have the model that doesn't come with handles- improvise them with a couple ~1"DIAMETER sticks, about 4" long)

This is good to know. I have these in several PSKs. I usually use the saw on my SAK or the folding saw I have, but the folder is added bulk. Now where is the best place to get a pocket chainsaw?

Like everybody has said the wore saws are ok if it doesn't break right away. I had one for a while and it work pretty good but when I bought a pocket chain saw I was blown away. Cuts very fast and I have even used it around the house with a length of rope to cut branches fairly high in the air.

The SAK saws are really good but the short length hinders its ability. They are great for detail work though.

I had one of the Commando saws given to me once. A very ineffective saw but worked well as a garrotte. You can cut through small trees and saplings faster with a knife and use less efffort.
