BCCI 110/BG42 blade

Flatlander thank you for mentioning the "Web Specials" on the Buck site. I had never thought to look in there. I ordered a BG42 G10 and Ranger with RAM scales and 440C blade.

No Problem. Great to see you found something you like there. I've managed to add the ram and elk 112 also. That Paul Bos heat treated 440c still intrigues me for some reason. As Goose would say they're stored away in the "time capsule." I think that's what the Goose said...

I thought I said "it's cheaper to keep her"? Oh wait, that was what people were trying to get through my noggin.

Yep, "time capsule". I hope whoever gets my steel appreciates them half as much as I do. Some came from very special Buck Brothers Forever (BBFs)...

Ok. I confused about this fire sale 110 BG-42 G-10 gig crap.
So as not to threadjack Decaf's thread about a special run of another knife, I'm posting here...

Kept hearing that the 110 BG-21 G-10 were running low. I was getting one of the last few. Then another Buck Brother posted they were told they got the "last one".

Now, they're on the web.

IF, I had know there was a decent supply left, I would've sent back the goofy one I received for a replacement. I didn't do that as, at the time, I believed that by doings so, I would kept a loyal Buck Brother from getting one of the last "few" left. Now I have a FUBAR one (gouge where bolster and G-10 mate) and to quote Dave from the other thread, "... none of these left have issues with fit and finish!!
all class A work
".

What a crock and I'm not talking crock sticks. MAN...guess I'm not "confused" as stated at the start of this post...this REALLY frosts my muffins.

I ordered one of the G10 110s a couple days ago and have not received a ship notification yet...so I am wondering if they really had any in stock. I am keeping my fingers crossed as I would really like one. I will let everyone know if it ships.

Goose, I have wondered the same thing and have found that issue confusing as well. I bought two of those also and had to send both back for replacements. You should have returned yours as well; in fact, since there still appear to be some left, I think you would be remiss in not sending yours back at this time to either Pete or Joe for a replacement. I don't think either one of those individuals would be content knowing that you are not fully satisfied with the one you have. My two cents!!

Goose if you are ok with it i am glad..

as to things... there have been conflicting reports on the g10's
i talked with Pete this week on them and i asked point blank if the
ones left were from those returned.. from what i recall he said
they stopped the run untell they found the problem and fixed it
being heavy handed with buffing causes g10 to pull away from the brass
{{so be carefull with cleaning them for time valts}}..
( hee hee hee i Love that term!)
i was told that light sanding and rebuffing fixed most the ones returned
and those found in stock
((this could be were stock was low))

I just got mine today. I never got a shipping notice, but I didn't in my last transaction through the custom shop.

Mine is in excellent condition. I would have preferred to choose my own scales like I used to be able to on my BG42 custom order. Overall, I'm happy though with it. I got it at a lower price than is advertised on the website. That helped, a lot.

There is no sign of red anywhere in or on the knife. Perhaps a rebuild? I may never know but I feel that I got an unusual, last of it's kind knife.

I wish the custom shop would offer more steels. At least CPM 154cm if they won't ever get more BG42.

If I had more money right now I'd get another while I still could.

Thanks everybody for the help, advice, and pictures. Joe

Goose if you have screwed up scales send it in!!!
...
i chase rummers at buck,,, it can be fun,,, but argaveting and report what i hear..
some times it is not reliable...
...

Hey Tin sue and Decaf...I dunno if I'll send it back. I've used it quite a bit anyway and the defect isn't enough to affect function. The one that is "perfect" is in my time capsule.
What frosts my muffins is hearing "get 'em while they're hot. Stock is running low. Once these are gone, there will be no more". And then there's a fire sale.

Dave, don't take this personally. It was not from you that I heard I was getting amongst the last "few". I appreciate your inside info and look forward for that to continue :)

The Mastiff, congrats on your knife. IT's a great one for certain

Sending my defective one back last fall cost me $11 inc ins. That adds a bit to the then $125 cost. Mine had scakes that weren't big enough - it had to be re-made. The replacement was fine. Still, it's worth it - neat knife. My first CS BG-42 from the previous year was a real 'buy' - $65 base 110 cost plus $19 for the BG-42 - $84 shipped - with a leather sheath. Ah, the good old days! That one, nickel silver bolsters and orange Fiji wood, was too pretty to EDC. My 'spare' BCCI BG-42 is my 'carry' version.

Why the heck do we do that, Goose, get one for the pocket - and one for the 'time capsule'? My 'Time Capsule' is a re-cycled display case from a collectibles store. That's a great way to obtain nice cases, BTW, as we did last week when my wife's favorite such place went belly-up. We got three 6'3" tall all glass cases for $100! Getting them home was fun... but they freed up another case of my wife's for me - and my knives. Clear glass shelves, mirrored bottom shelf, and LV quartz lamps - nice. Still, who, besides me, looks at them?

Oh, the red/black Micarta is thin - the same thickness as the G10. An 8X loupe, like my photo one in my desk drawer, helps. You can see the joint line - and, with the right light, some red/black - mostly black. In all seriousness, something I am seldom accused of, it's probably just another glue joint to delaminate.

Stainz,

Heres an old photo, which could have been better, showing you black/dark red layer line. FYI 300bucks

After rereading here I went and looked again. The red G10 is just where it is supposed to be. It's difficult to see though.

I still like the knife and would buy another. I might too. :) Joe

...

If you have one with red G-10, keep it. All the others that I have hear of have black G-10 with red micarta liners.

For me in the morning? At 52, the best part of waking up is Folger's in my cup.

DITTOS there goose
'Trax must be a bunch younger then us ...:p;)

For me, waking up each morning is affirmation that buying those green banannas last week was a good idea!

Total aside - that 6'8" tall all glass case was a bear to move out of my den. The two guys who moved it were my size and age - but didn't need a hip replacement, either. I did notice something disturbing. The quartz lamps were powered by 110V, which was fed up the case by an insulated metal strip on each side, which was connected directly to the AC line cord in the base! That can't be UL approved. The case had fixed clear glass shelves, except for the mirrored bottom. It was branded for 'Hummel' collectibles. Avoid it! I hope it made it across town. That was the most expensive used case I have ever bought ($150). I gave it away just to get rid of it.

Check collectible shops for these cases - they are always changing brands - or going out of business. Try to get one with LV lamps - and a top mounted transformer, like the two piece 'Goebel Crystal' case I got from my wife. It makes for a more comfortably warm roost for my cat. It holds - in plastic stands - most of my knives, while the base unit holds their boxes and sheaths. Both use the same key - be sure to get the keys. One of the boxes I just bought for $40 cost the original owner $810 and an agreement to stock it with their product. Still, what a great way to display your BG-42 110 with G10 & red/black Micarta. Keep an 8X loupe in their so they can see the Micarta!
