Decaf! Are you alluding to the spear-shaped dagger-like false edged chip blade vaguely ressembling a modified clip/drop point? Is that your question? Do tell.

Sometimes you're the bullet.
Sometimes you're the can.

BTW: The newsletter doesn't mention the blade style that will be on the final product :(

I was wondering the same thing...or rather, why would you?:rolleyes:

I dont know what blade they have in mind for that knife. It may be that the proto is diferent than what the production run will be. That happens.

What happens sometimes, especially with a flint chipped blade I would think, is that they scramble to get a sample knife made in time for print.
You cant just take a standard finished 110 blade and flint chip it. You need a hardened, stamped, not hollowground, blade for that trick. We dont make those usually. So sometimes they grab the closest thing and use it instead. Since it is only for pictures, and wont actually be used, usually, it does not matter if it is not totally representative of the finished product.<---That must be what they are thinking.
Since forever our catalogs have been filled with pictures of prototype knives. I remember one year where one of the knives was only a model with a painted handle. Even so, I have been trying to impress on the powers that be just how important every detail can be to us collectors. Progress, although slow, is being made. :)

So what is the process for flint chipping??? Do you gouge it with a mallet and chisel; grind it with a die grinder; or whack it with a specially faced hammer???

The finish...Is it acid dipped; blasted; or chemically treated???

Inquiring minds want to know...

I have a Buck 120 in my hand right now...How bee-yoo-tee-full it would be with a flint chipped blade... :D

In the Buck Picture Thread page 23, EEE posted this:
Custom Buck 106 Full Chip Flint by Leroy Remer, black buffalo horn with white streaks
running through it to give it a chocolate coloring w red paper trim.
Nickle silver pins and horse by "Wilde" Bill cody.
This axe was a 2 liner in rough condition that Leroy gave new life too.
Outstanding work by both artist.

If you have enough money...anything is possible

yes i agree "How bee-yoo-tee-full" they are!!!
most any thing is possable...and has likely been done..
you jest have to find who has what was done and .. buy it
trade secreats are the hardest to get hold of ...
i have two of the chip and one of the natave and
each lends to an idear of how done.. but
you can see that the artist's skills come in to be a big part of it..

All,
The first fifty BCCI project Asian Water Buffalo 110s with the chipped flint blade and new Buck/BCCI tang stamp have just arrived. I must say that they are fantastic. The red paper trim adds just the right amount of "dress-up" in a classy, subtle way. Combined with the darkened chipped flint blade, black buffalo horn slabs and nickel silver bolster, this knife is a sure-fire keeper. Buck Knives really outdid themselves on this one.

Thank you for the update Larry! I suppose these are all sold out already :D
Thanks to this thread I definately gotta have one ;)

Dumb question... If I were to join BCCI now, could I buy one of those 'club special' 110's?
Thanks!
