BCS BATAC LE'S Question

I have been pining away for a batac, but I have to have magnum micarta scales. I see now that the BCS has the LE'S with the mag tigerhide, and I started to go ahead and get one then I noticed that the steel is .270" thick. Can one of yo guys that owns and uses one of these comment on the thickness? I want one for a hiking general knife, and I think this might be too darned thick (heavy) for anything other than a safe queen. I hope I am wrong. Could somebody post a pic with the new le .270 next to a std with mag handles .187 ???? thanks,

ive handled both, and own the le.

the cg, even with mags, felt to thin for its size, imo.

the le is thick and heavy, but i dont thing so much so that it will be cumbersome while carrying. i plan to use mine, but havent been back to the woods since it arrived.

Mag TAC handles are not the grossly oversized things that the other mag versions are. The swells are not emphasized, just given a slightly thicker backing.

This shot of my NARK, Custom BATAC, and SJT-V shows the difference. The BATAC has "magnum" slabs while the others are original thickness:

I have had the CG BATAC w/ standard handles and now own an SE. I am not sure but I think the handles on the SE are mags. Right? Anyway, while I like both a lot, the SE, having the thicker handles and thicker stock, is an absolute perfect fit in my hand. In fact I think that thickness makes for my favorite handle thus far. :) To me it feels very light and versatile. Enough heft to do some decent chopping.

I hoping to find this out tomorrow. I had a CG TAC, and I didn't like the handles. I felt they were too thin for the knife. I got an LE and a CG with magnums that I'm hoping make me change my mind. :D

does everyone here have big hands?! am i the only one with small hands? i ordered an le from the store and am somewhat concerned about the thickness being less than comfortable. the shape of the tac handles don't fit well in my hand, but i like the cg badger nonetheless. i've handled both the standard and mag versions of the cg and i liked the mag better, but i'm rather uncertain about anything thicker.

I have somewhat small palms, but fairly long fingers... I prefer the LE, but if I were planning on hiking and if weight was an issue, I'd probably take a regular CG. it's much lighter. Funny thing... the mags on a CG don't really feel that comfortable compared to the LE, or the CG with standard slabs. I'm really not sure why this is...

I think you will like the difference. It fills the hand much better. And, being a small/med knife, it really doesn't cause a "weight issue" as far as carrying it. IMHO.

Well, my PORKFRIEDRICE and LE just showed up (along with a bunch of other goodies). I can say now, that TAC handles aren't completely lost on me. The magnums make a huge difference to me. I didn't like the CG BATACs because the handle just didn't feel right. The black/white magnums on the BATAC I just got feel a whole lot better. They fill out my hand more.

The LE is another story in itself. I really like this knife!! Definitly a keeper. It feels even better in hand than the black and white. I got both not knowing which I would like better. As nice as it is, I still don't think the black/white magnum BATAC is for me. The LE is definitly the cat's meow though. My number is 812

I guess I've changed my mind about the BATACs a little. ;) I'll get some pics later.

Does anyone here have an LE from the shop, and one from the store? I'm curious if there's a difference in the darkness of the numbers. The number on my LE is extremely dark, but in pics of other's LE BATACs, the numbers don't look as dark. I almost thought they were stenciled on instead of lasered.

I do... and yes the logos are darker on the BCS versions. Also... the logo is also larger. ;)

The BCS versions look like the numbers were laser etched versus what appears to be milled numbers on the Badger LEs and the FBM LEs.

Thanks Foo! .... So I'm not crazy. ;)

I'm just contemplating about the slicing performance of the CG and the LE...
the CG is thinner, but the LE has a full height grind, isn't it?
I was afraid to order the LE, because of this, and the weight-factor, and I just couldn't justify both...

Yes, the LE has a full height grind, and weighs substantially more. I think the CG would be a better slicer, but there's just something about the LE that I really like even though it's a sharpened railroad spike. :D

The LEs are where its at!

And the CGs actually have the same edge geometry as the LEs...
if you were to follow the bevel angle of the saber grind up to the spine...
they would be at .270" thick.

LE's rock the house!

And that's some interesting info I was not aware of.
