BDCs and kerambits arrived today.

Email sent last night to Uncle Bill and Yangdu, confirming price of Kerambit and letting them know that I would PayPal them for the 14" BNM and Kerambit today via PayPal.
I have sent e-mail to you and cc to Yangdu just now to see if last nights e-mail got me on the list for both. I hope so. ;) Let me know and the funds will fly!

Hi Guys
I was on the list for a Kerambit, have emailed Uncle Bill. Don't sell mine. I have had some sort of technical glitch with BF so re-registered. Previously known as fullplate, hope this isn't a major SNAFU on my behalf. It's 10pm here now, going to bed, will check mail first thing in the morning. Please don't sell mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I *was* prepaid and still had to scramble to get mine (literally mine since it was long since paid for) and at that, it's horn instead of wood. Obviously things in Reno are not running full steam and I understand that.

I sent smoke for Uncle Bill for comfort, Yangdu for strength, Dan for a thick skin and fellow Cantinistas for patience, compassion and understanding if things didn't go quite they way they hoped.

I ignored Rusty completely as it was the safest thing to do with a heavily armed cranky guy.

ps: The kamis totally ignored our desire for wood...they can collectively kiss my non-sacred a$$. No bonus for this special order.

My email and ISP went on the blink Monday evening, so I couldn't check Bladeforums until this morning. Sorry for the frantic email, Pen  . But what a relief for me :D . Nasty, I was hoping that the reverse would happen - Too many wood and not enough horn. A couple of weeks ago I started wishing that I had ordered wood. But I guess it wouldn't have made any difference anyway.

Kinda bites about the Kerambits selling out so quickly. I was really hoping to get one this time around. But, hey, thems the breaks;) What do ya say, Dan? Are we going to try and get another order placed in the near future. I wasn't pre-paid or anything so i'm not sweating it, but it is a bit of a let down. Hang tough fellas. The kamis will make more if there is a demand. Although it was a small order and not what we expected, thanks for the design input on the 'bits, Dan. Very cool of you to do that. And thanks for pulling the special orders together in your present health, Uncle Bill. I know you've had a hell of a time with all of this. it'll all work out, i'm sure.

~Jake

I'm back online and what's done is done.

I'm hopeful there will be another order, but I'll have to do some begging and pleading with Yangdu. Keep it positive and upbeat guys - that's the only way we'll get another order.

I'm in this with the rest of ya. I just happened to be lucky enough to check the forum before heading to bed.

But what can we learn from this?

When I say "you better prepay".....

:p

Seriously, though, every special order is a crap shoot....for me, that's half the fun - seeing what pops out of the magician's hat.

:D

Hey, I know. Get in line. I emailed her at 7:50 something her time last night with an inquiry as to what was left and how much to send, and the 14" models had already gone by then. I know some 10" ers and kerambits were still left. All I need to know is how much to send. Still no word as of this am. I imagine she's in email hell about now trying to figure everything out.

I figured as long as I was buying regularly they knew I was good for it. At this point I simply hope they go by the order of the emails and distribute accordingly.

Good luck!

Norm

Hee-hee.

I'd love a kerambit, but will have to wait until next time.

On the bright, happy, joy-joy side, supply will follow demand- and 10 knives selling out in a few hours certainly indicates demand!

Also, I would be prepared for the worst case scenario, that is that we just missed out on this one.

I know for a fact that several 10" BDC's and kerambits were still available when I emailed, but in this scramble I wouldn't be surprised if they are all gone and not in any particular order.

Well, if that is the case then I have to say that this is a good day because I learned a new life lesson.. :( :)

Actually, I learned years ago when ordering custom gunsmith services to NEVER, EVER prepay. The smith just lost all incentive to do the work he promised to do.

But with the services this much in demand that seems to be the wrong approach, to say the least. Lesson learned!

Regards,

Norm

Uncle wants a sign-up list. AFAIK, no need to prepay. Just put your name down if you are 99% sure you want one. Specify wood or horn.

Updated 02-13-04 0925 EST

THE LIST IS NOW CLOSED

10" BDC list
$100

Pendentive - wood
Pragitam - wood
Brian in Chi - wood
Svashtar - horn
John Satchell - wood
DKP - wood
texalp - wood
Triple fullered Baby Dui Chirra. Full Tang.

Guess I missed the part where you said "better prepay"?
Hoping for another round

OK, I'm confused. I wasn't a prepayer for the kerambit, but I did note my interest. If there's one left, let me know (that's what I'm unclear about). I'm sending email now.

sometimes it's easy to forget that new folk aren't accustomed to the "status quo" when it comes to special orders. Uncle asks for an "interest list" first, then begins taking prepayment. At the time, the interest was moderate and the intended supply, plentiful.

However, when half the order shows up....can't please everybody and somebody's going to get their feelings hurt.

I've always told anybody that's asked about a special order that if they really want to have it, they have to prepay.

The reason for the "no prepay necessary" comment above is that with some special orders, Uncle won't do the order unless it is prepaid in full. We talked about this one, and the consensus was that there was enough interest to make the order without a prepay.

Basically it boils down to this - who's going to be the one to take the risk (put their neck on the line)?

If Uncle orders without prepay - it's him. We're asking for a huge favor to get these done in the first place, let alone asking him to pre-order without pre-payment.

I'm sorry if anyone's upset. If you really want one, email Yangdu and offer to prepay. She'll order one just for you. ;)

Yangdu says:

5 - 10" BDC left

and another thing...

...I just remembered that an entirely new thread I started about the BDC & Kerambit was erased during the switchover to v3 (bladeforums). It was in that thread that I asked for prepayment. That's how so many got in on it ahead of time.

For me, it's not a problem. I recognize that there is always a risk for this type of thing. I'm just not sure if there are any available or not. If not, my tough luck--maybe I can get in on another batch. Otherwise, I know I took my chances...

And so the new mod gets his hands dirty...

Nice recovery, Pen!

I take it therw'll be no 'drippings to get, OK by me. Too rich fer me blood!

Guess I'm a blem guy and secondary mkt kinda guy.

Keith

no blems in this box, Keith.

But there are still a few 10 inch BDCs waiting to find a home....
