Well, I don't know about everyone else, but I like to collect a variety of knives from a variety of makers; and they don't have to be expensive to interest me (I've also found it doesn't have to be expensive to be as good or better than knives costing 2-4 times as much).

In fact, if it costs too much, I know I won't use it and would feel like it needed to be under glass or something. :D Believe it or not, my favorite overall folder might just be my Kershaw Tension 1490; originally $40, I got it for $20 shipped... made in the People's Republic. When it got here, I liked it so much I ordered another one so even if it went out of production I'd always have one if the other got lost or stolen.

I also have other hobbies and collections, so my spending cash doesn't go just to knives.

I haven't ever done an estimate on how much I've spent; but I will admit that I'm a very resourceful guy when it comes to buying and getting deals, and I doubt I've ever paid full retail for any of my knives... except for my large laguiole, because it's handmade to order. For example, I bought my 2 carbon Moras on a two-fer deal for $8 shipped... not $8 each, $8 for both and free shipping. It's not as great a deal, but I bought a brand new Buck 110 with the leather sheath tonight for $23.96 shipped.

Most of my purchases have been similar; takes some research and time, but the effort has enabled me to have a considerably bigger collection than I otherwise would have. I thought I might be able to eyeball it and give some rough estimate of what I've spent; but as I look over the list, it's a little more daunting than I anticipated. Suffice it to say I don't feel like I NEED any more knives... WANTS, on the other hand, are an entirely different story.
