Go to http://www.speedtest.net/, and click "begin test". This will check your download/upload speed.

After the test is completed, click "share this result", then "forum", and then "copy". Paste the link in this thread.

And if you care to, tell us what ISP you have and how much you pay each month for internet access. I pay $50/month for upgraded "turbo" internet access through Time Warner, which gives me another 10 mb/s download speed above the 14 mb/s I was getting for $40.

25 mb/s download is hardly "turbo" in my book, but whatevs. I despise Time Warner, btw.

My city is on the list to possibly receive Google Fiber someday, and I'm going to be all over that like white on rice. But it is probably years into the future. It claims download speeds up to 1000 mb/s, though I would settle for a few hundred. :)

Here are my results, and what you will see if you try it:

ISP is Ziggo and I pay € 78/month for combined Internet, TV and Phone

I've never done this before. I don't know if it is good or bad... We have been having interweb issues for the last few days though

Stuff can effect the results, check what your ISP promises & compare the results again a few times in the future.

Oh and wifi, downloading pron at the same time will slow it down.

1234,,,,:)

I'm on CenturyLink and it's bundled with satellite television and phones. I have no idea what it costs 'cause Wife pays that bill. Probably a fortune.

Not bad.

While we're on the subject, what do you pay for your internet connection? I think we are paying about $50 a month, but I am not 100% sure. I checked around to see what other providers charge in the area and they are all about the same or more.

I live in the sticks so this is pretty fast out here. It's wireless internet, broadcast from a nearby mountain top to a little tiny dish on my house. I pay $80 a month. Price you pay to live in the country.

Providers always compare to old telephone dial up connections for their marketing "speed" and as a result, that is probably pretty turbo.

I doubt you would like the price on the google fiber optics. Price vs speed has always been the case. I believe my internet speed is my provider's second tier speed and is hugely faster than dsl. Wife loves it.

It looks okay to me. Google Fiber is in the ballpark of:

- one time fee of $300, then "free" for 7 years of basic service, or
- $70 per month for up to 1000 mb/s download speed, or
- $120 per month for up to 1000 mb/s download speed plus tv

Link.

And that 1000 mb/s is for both download and upload too.

$120 per month is cheaper than the slow internet plus tv with my crappy cable system, so I'm all over Google Fiber when it gets here. And like magic, my cable provider cranks up the speed in other markets when Google Fiber arrives (link). I say bring it on.

I get 50/26. Gigabyte U-verse and google are getting ready to install in my neighborhood (about 50m and 500m away currently) Will switch

Now we know the location of your secret underground bunker! ;)

I pinged that server through multiple proxy servers, so my signal could have come from anywhere. But even so, my bunker is 1400 feet below ground, and behind 22 feet of reinforced concrete, so its all good. Kate Upton and I are doing just fine down here.

I have fiber optic. Pretty fast. I think it is slowed down a bit by my wireless router. I went with oNE that had 2x plus the speed recommended, and with 4 or 5 devices using the signal it still works, but if everyone is watching videos at the same time, I notice.
