Be a man - or a groovy chick. Show your internet speed.

Installing AdBlocker and Ghostery will speed up your internet more than buying a faster service.
It's shocking how much tracking and advertising crap bogs down the internet. And you might be shocked at how much of that crap some websites use simultaneously on a single page. CNN, for example, runs 15 trackers on their home page every time you visit, and who knows how much of the bandwidth is taken up by their ads. And they're not even the worst offender.

Looks pretty slow compared to others here….it costs me $58.00 a month for a D- rating. :thumbdn:
Slower than 62% of the US.

To members who subscribe to the words "Death to Whiners", I am not whining. I quit whining about dialup when I first saw the colourful embroidery on the patch ... ;)

Just for fun, here is my rating on dialup, ISP Vianet $19.20/mo 100 hour/mo max

The computer's modem connection status is shown as 32 Kbs at the time of this test.

Could someone kindly explain the high number on this ping rating?

DOWNLOAD: 0.03 Mbps
UPLAOD: 0.12 Mbps
PING: 443 ms

The Ping test is the communication delay between computers or a server and computer. This explains it better. http://compnetworking.about.com/od/homenetworktroubleshooting/f/pingtest.htm

So, a good "Ping" is less than 30ms.

I am no expert, but gosh telephone dialup computer connections... I remember well. Got DSL connection and thought it wonderful. But it was still sluggish with things like videos. Comcast up their speeds after the local competition beat the pants off them. They are second best locally. I haven't researched the overall ratings and their significance, but clearly my connection (fiber optic to the house, then telephone lines to the modem) as far as I know is pretty fast. At one time and perhaps still, my service was rated the fastest internet connection in the country, but I believe their is another cost step up for "really fast". I'm satisfied. My cost runs about the same as my DSL service previously which is why I changed. I clearly need a fast download time. Just send big photographs and you see the speed. I can send about 100 megs of photos in a about a minute usually and sometimes a couple minutes and this is a very common thing I do. My package includes a land line (unlimited calling), fax line, TV, and internet and that runs me about $200 a month. This was about a $100 a month savings over my previous service which included DSL internet and telephone with one company and TV with another.

Yes, I have multiple wireless phones and tablet computers too between my wife and I. I refuse to even consider U-Verse (AT&T), they charged me $1000 for breaking my contract with them that I didn't even know I had after like 5 years..... Yes, I paid it (eventually).

I pinged that server through multiple proxy servers, so my signal could have come from anywhere. But even so, my bunker is 1400 feet below ground, and behind 22 feet of reinforced concrete, so its all good. Kate Upton and I are doing just fine down here.

Rock on! :D

Holy smokes....welcome to the middle ages of internet speed....

After talking to customer service, I bought a new modem. The old one was 11 years old. There is a huge differance in download speed, but upload speed is lower.
I ran the test 3 times. The lowest speed was 57 Mb/s and the fastest 69 Mb/s.

Here's the old speed test.

Just for the halibut, I checked my speed on various servers and sites. My download speed varies around 60 to 35. Upload stays the same.

All this speed really means nothing when the website feeds you at who knows what speed. Some sites are blazing fast, almost instantaneous, but most that I use are slooooooooow.

I got an email from the cable company about an hour ago telling me that they raised their speeds (up to) 100 Mb/s and I should reboot my modem. OK, I did that. No difference. I didn't really expect any.

Sometimes, if you're not careful, things become clear. I was washing the dishes and was not thinking of anything in particular when this popped into my head. I realized that my computer was plugged in my router. I connected it directly to my modem and got this.
