The last two days in particular I am getting bombarded with emails supposedly from forumites and dealers alerting me to their email address change. They all say the same thing. In almost unbroken English, to teh effect: "Hey my email don't work so good, don't nkow why? I have new email address, thanks!" Or some similar message. Then there is usually a zip file attached they're usually 12k or 75k in size too. DO NOT OPEN THE ZIP FILE!!! I can only imagine what virus lay waiting. Some of the emails use names from here on BF and from dealers we all know. I know it isn't any of them as I know most of these people and the frequency and volume is too suspicious. As well, why would they attach a file? Not anyone I know. DELETE, DELETE, DELETE!!!

Some worms will grab email addresses from the victim's address book or by searching the computer and then forge the "From: " header. It may be that a member here became infected and this is what's happening.

I see, so would it be possible it's being generated internally then? Meaning from my computer...

You might want to let the people who "sent" you the emails know they might have a virus, so they can get it checked out.

Rich im getting exactly the same thing???? Just started about 2 days ago WTF??? Have all the latest spyware, Norton etc. Still like 20X's per day??? yahoo forwards it to my Bilk mail section. And yes there were some w/ paris Hilton references as mentioned above? Obviously ALL delted but again wtf?

these mails arent coming from those peoples computers, theyre being "farmed" off the forums and such. I've been hit very hard by this as well, at least 35 - 40 per day. Its a trick that started a little over a year ago and the virus's are rather nasty and getting bigger evidently, last year the average zipped size was 35k.

I know of at least one of my e-mail addresses has been robbed this way and its very frustrating.

....spoof the sender's email address........so you can receive a hundred of them all from apparently different senders, and they all could really originate from one infected computer.
They used to do that with the address booik on the infected computer, but the newer ones capture email addresses from anything opened up on the infected computer, ie; websites, emails received, )including addresses in the body of the email) and such.

These viruses and worms really piss me off! Howzabout the next person they catch creating these things, they put them in a little room with Gary Glitter or something similar?

How'z bout they put him in a room with me and a 2X4 with a few nails thru the end! LOL

Yeah, I got one from a well known knife dealer and about 8 more from known forumites. Some said "Paris Hilton/Nicole Richie" and other said "I have new email address" All either 12k 45k or 75k in size. All VERY OBVIOUSLY NOT the person they say they are. Grrrrrr!

Any ideas on how to correct this issue? Still ongoing here??? Thanks for any intel from the Comp. Techies out there!

My ISP catches most of them.
I use AVG AV, and it catches those that get through.
On my primary addres, which I don't use for mail any more, I get at least one a day.
Almost none on the address I use for mail here and everywhere else.
