Broke the first rule of knife handling "always cut away from yourself" did this opening a box Tuesday morning with a CRK classic that I sharpened the day before going in for surgery on Friday to reattach the tendon. Be careful folks.

Holy hell, mate, that is brutal. Hope everything heals well!

Now here's the question: has your relationship with the knife improved or are you now a little uncomfortable by it?

Admittedly, even after cutting myself, it goes down as history with that knife and I feel greater attachment to it, despite the negative experience

I hope you heal fast and well, mate!
I got nicked today, too, but it was nothing to worry about, the usual stuff for knife nuts.

Best wishes.

Even after you cut yourself, you still hold your knives with the blade towards you?
All while posting in a thread that specifically states the golden rule about not cutting towards oneself...

OP: I hope that surgery goes smoothly and as planned, heal up quickly.

Heal quickly & well.

I'll pray for you Bladegunner! That you heal quickly, and better times ahead.

Quick and painless recovery brother!!!
Every time I have done something like that, it reminds me of an old saying my fifth grade teacher used to tell us constantly......the hurrier I go....the behinder I get.

I did not notice my Exacto knife fell in the floor. It would not have been a big deal just a poke from the tip. But the tip was bent over and when I lifted my foot it was stuck and sliced while it was dangling from my foot then fell out.

X-Acto knives and smaller utility knives have caused some of the worst injuries I've seen. 25 years ago, my dad had an X-Acto that fell off of his desk top, and got caught between the work surface and storage compartment underneath. When he bent over to pick it up (he didn't realize it was sticking out from under the work top), it cut his forearm to the bone, several inches long. The scar is still prominent today.

I recently had a Viper Keeper with a bad detent come open in my pocket, bit me on the palm between the middle & ring finger. I don't agree with beansandcarrots - No sentimental attachment here. I hate that damn knife now.

Wow, that is a nasty one! I've had a lot of near misses, and a few smaller ones but thankfully never cut the whole way through. My XM-18 took a pretty deep bite out of my ring finger a week ago...foolishly didn't lock it in the open position while I was checking out the detent ball, so it just slammed itself clamped right down on my finger.

Thankfully fell just short of needing stitches. I was able to hold it together with a butterfly, some gauze, and some medical tape. Healing pretty well. Even so, makes it look like a paper-cut compared to this.

Very best wishes to you for a quick & painless recovery...and full/uninterrupted function on your thumb/tendons. Make sure to get a plastic surgeon on that as opposed to general. They're the best option when tendons and functionality are involved. Best chance for restoration of functionality and a smaller scar.

Thanks for the prayers and kind words, I do appreciate it.
Off to the hospital for preregistration.

Please be safe everyone let this be your lesson no fun learning the other way.

Ouch man that's a good one. Best of luck with the surgery! That scar will feel funky for a while.

Appreciate the concern Joe, healing up fine no pain just got the stitches out today. PT starts Tuesday got this funky little half cast made out of plastic to immobilize the thumb. So doing very well just a inconvenience at this point.
