I was looking at the current issue of Blade Magazine and the cover story is about fake CRK Knives. There are even fake Embelished Sebenzas out there so be very careful buying from eBay and all unauthorized CRK dealers.

Do you know if they are faking the boxes and cards? It's not like it would be that hard to do but could be a hassle and a red flag if there's none...especially if they are sold as new.

could someone post a picture of a fake sebenza? i think i would be able to tell the difference but i would like to know what people are trying to pass off as sebenzas

Yes, some people are even faking boxes and cards, though apparently nobody has imitated the sheathmaker's stamp yet.
Another thing to keep in mind is that on a real CRK, the logo and the 'made in america' marquee are engraved and not etched.

The article focused mostly on a counterfeit Freyja dagger and the discrepancies between the real thing. While us knuts might not be fooled - hard to tell sometimes - it is easy to see how a Layman might mistake it for the real thing.

Looks like a serious problem, but nobody does a damn thing because we all owe China too much money.

If you find any pics, I and many others would greatly appreciate it if you could post them. There have long been fake OPR knives made by schrade and also of other china origins with a fake CRK logo. I emailed CRK about it. This is the first I have heard about fake sebenzas !!! Thats a scary thought, especially for a newbie wanting to buy their first sebbie.

this is it, can you tell the difference :)

I read the same thing - Chris himself mentioned "Fake Sebenza's" in the article. I haven't seen any other than this stupid knife.

This fits more into the "knockoff" catagory rather than "counterfeit". Since then I've been looking but haven't found any yet. Will post if I can find something..

I found this on the bay, is the fake sebbie that everyone is talking about ??? I truely find it hard to believe that Mr. Reeve would contact CRKT to make a cheap sebenza clone ??? Here is the listing !!! I would not even waste my money on the shipping !!! For a newbie, I can see where they would mistake one for a sebenza since it looks pretty close.......

""This auction is for a very rare NIB Columbia River Knife and Tool Sebenza 6513 folder knife. Knife is new and has not been used, sharpened, carried, and does not come in its original box because none were created. The title is not a typo it was produced by CRKT not CRK , it is extremely rare and only a handful exist. From what I heard Chris Reeve collaborated with CRKT in the 90's to produce a low budget Sebenza, it was "discontinued" in 1997. But Chris was not happy with the execution of the knife and had all produced destroyed and only a few survived. This knife would be a great addition for any true Sebenza owners due to the extreme rarity of this knife.""

There are real CRKT Sebs... it was a failed experiment that the pros on here can explain better than I can. But yeah, that one ain't fake I don't think.

That is a CRKT produced Sebenza. As mentioned, Mr. Reeve was unhappy with the quality, and the project was abandoned and only a few are still floating around.

There is a long thread on this over at Knifeforums about this, but basically CR and CRKT played around with doing a collaboration a few years ago. The CRKT "Sebenza" never made it into production. Something about the quality level not being adequate to suit Mr. Reeve. Anyway, these are real but only make for interesting collectables. Anyone trying to pass this off as anything more isn't being very forthcoming.

Edit - I just read the ad, and while it utilizes salesmanship, it is generally correct and not deceitful from my perspective. An interesting collectable if you want a "Sebenza" with fiberglass handles.

The handles are steel right? Kinda hard to make a frame lock with fiberglass
