Be Careful!

no matter how real the pics look, I wouldn't buy a $400+ knife from a website I wasn't completely sure about.

Hey All,

I am a newbie to this forum and knives and I guess I got conned into bidding for a Fake CRKT Sebenza on eBay.

I have as yet not paid for it and was wondering if I could back out of the deal without getting a negative rating from the seller or if it is worth buying..........total cost including shipping would be around $ 70.

I would post pics if I could figure out how to.

Thanks in advance.

I dont know much about Ebay so cant comment on the negative feedback etc but I can tell you it WONTbe worth it!

Rather save the money for a real Sebenza or spend that $70 (if you cant stand going without a knife) on a Spyderco Delica or Benchmade Griptilian if you are looking for a good well designed knife.

I saved three years for my first Seb and there is nothing like saving and getting your hands on the real deal and you know you get the great warranty with the knife of this caliber.

You can post pictures using photobucket or give us the item number to ebay (no direct links.)

What you have is an early, pre-production "Sebenza" that was originally intended to be a collaboration piece between Chris Reeve and CRKT. CR was never satisfied with the quality or the final design of this knife, so the project never made it to mass distribution. A few copies were distributed to marketers and dealers though. It is still an interesting historical piece, and legitimate, but not a real CR Sebenza. I almost bought this one just for interest, and I've seen them go for over $100 on d'bay a few times. Unless you need the $70, it could be a cool keeper. On the other hand, if your interest in is a good quality, user knife for the same $$, this probably isn't it.

This has been discussed before;

Take care!

Sellers can no longer give negative feedback on eBay. It's been that way for some time but they can complain to eBay and eBay may take some Dort of action against you.

If you back out of the deal without paying, you lose nothing, and since he hasn't sent it, he loses nothing but some time. To be courteous, don't just walk away from the deal, email him to let him know you are no longer interested.

That the pics!Thanks!

Maybe it's just me, but those look "off" in a way. Namely the fact that although the knives seem to be angled up, the front scale chamfer doesn't look like me 21 (wide). Then it's missing the MM / Classic engraving to be a classic.

Maybe it's earlier then the classic? Everything else looks spot on, even the jimping / screw placements...

I did just that........informed the seller of the whole thing including the discussion on this forum and the reply I got from Chris Reeve Knives.............and I got a stinker from eBay for the trouble........an unpaid item warning.

I have never seen CRK use Damascus like that yet but you never know. The only way to confirm would be a comment from CRK.

The damascus looks a bit "splotchy" to me, but I haven't seen enough CRK damascus to have any sort of reliable opinion.

I'm not very familiar with CRK damascus, but the handles look damn good. It's hard to tell about the blade because of the tilt and damascus. I'm curious on the verdict for this one. If it's fake it'll be by far the best fake I've ever seen.

My thoughts as well.

It really looks a lot like Mike Norris' "Hornet's Nest" or "Gator Skin" damascus to me. Cheap damascus tends to have long, longitudinal welds along the length of the blade. Occasionally CR does small runs with specialty damascus blades, so I would think a call the shop would be in order. There is a very good possibility that this is legitimate, given the general appearance of the knives. I can't see anything that screams "FAKE" to me.

If those damascus 21s are fake then it's time to be getting worried I think. Out of all the fake knives I see over here I have yet to see one that would fool someone with even a small amount of experience with the real thing.

Those knives look real to me, little detales like the chamfering at the lanyard hole (the wee bit bulges out from the lanyard hole) are usually the first to get canned on a fake as they are hard to do well. The thumb studs, lanyard pins and the lanyard cord also look just like the ones used by CRK. That is the sort of stuff that again usually just gets made to look good enough on fakes. I doubt one could make an exact copy of those items that would be worth your time, even if you had the original in hand to copy from.
