Be honest how many carabiners do you own?

Two REAL ones...
I think I may have one or two of the garbage TOY ones that everyone seems to have now.

I consider them to be a law suite just WAITING to happen...

Now, you should know that I am VERY against the kinds of law suite abuse that we see so much of today....But to sell a piece of equipment that is a look-alike for a SAFTEY device.....That is just a desaster WAITING to happen...

Some kid it going to think it will hold him, because it is made out of metal and get himself killed!

This has just bothered my for SO long that I just HAD to VENT!

<end rant>

I agree with jamesray.

Even though the toy biners are stamped "NOT FOR CLIMBING" or something similar on them, some models look just a bit too close to the UIAA/CE rated ones for comfort.

Well, if anyone is stupid enough to climb on a toy biner, then Darwinism is alive and well.

Oh man, I thought I was the only one. I don't climb and I don't plan on climbing any time in the near future, but carabiners are just so cool (and useful) I can never resist. I must have 5 or 6, Petzl, Black Diamond and DMM. I'm currently eyeing up a Omega Pacific Jake Jr. autolocker for my keys, the just never come up on Ebay.
Ross...Today I received the gift that you sent to me...Thank-You!!.:).

Probably 2 - 3 dozen. At least a dozen "real" ones that I got at REI, and a couple of dozen clips that are in the checkout line at Home Depot.

I don't climb, but they are just so handy. I like the little guys for keys and such, and I always carry several "real" ones when I hike. I figure that in case I stumble across a search and rescue and they need one more.... Plus, they're handy for dropping a large knife sheath down from a belt loop for carrying lower on the leg.

What can I say, I love gadgets.

Hey, no prob Dann. It was just lying around anyway, and I got some Omega Pacifics on the way in. On top of that, this will be the beginning of adding you to the list of those that have way too many 'biners :D As if we didn't already have enough addictions...

the best price for sporting biners I've found are from Karst Sports... Industrial biners I can get from the local hardware store for pretty cheap although I would not use them for life support activities. These industrial cheapies are heavy duty steel and is as strong as an ox on steroids, but I can't see hanging myself off a structure with a three dollar biner. These however, offer a stronger alternative to the soft aluminum accessory biner...
